But officially they're called the Police - at least that's what they put on their cars :o)

They are called Police i'm English trust me. Other slang terms include Coppers, Bobbies, Pigs ( rarely - only to gangsters of course). They are also referred to as the Constabulary if you want to get picky and the jails are called prisons.

England invented the Police - and yeh we call them the same thing as you guys and all our former colonies (apart from Southern Ireland which likes to be different) call them POLICE.
You and 3/4 of the world use the same name... POLICE.

In Scotland they are called the "POLIS".. and a few other choice names, lol, lol.
And the English call them "BOBBIES"
The name of the jail, Bar-L or the Big Hoose.
