find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

What I do is 100 crunches a day. Crunches are less invigorating than sit-ups and it only takes me about 5 to 10 minutes to do it. Also, doing a 100 easily works out the muscles. Doing this for a week should reduce the gut considerably.
What I usually do is throw some food in the oven, and then take a quick shower and do my crunches. By the time I'm done with my crunches, the food will be cooked and I can easily satisfy the appetite I worked out.
Crunches are easy, simple, pain-free, and not so time consuming. Give it a try!

Adding weight to your ab work out will make the muscles bigger just like any other muscle. I would say that thats ok, just don't use heavy weights. Maybe a five or ten lb plate is fine. But it's like you said, you need to burn down some body fat so that you can see your art work. Eat less junk food and soda and eat more chicken and fish. You'll get there.

Sometimes we just gain muscles instead of burning that stupid fat. I know and understand this problem. Sometimes exercises just aren't enough.

Sit ups and weight training with small weights and lots of reps. It will take a long time to build up too much muscle believe me. Get rid of gut before you worry about muscle.

yes that is true, first y gotta lose weight, than u should thinking about muscles, otherwise u aint gonna successed in what u want, and u gonna have muscles that could only node it by touch, and u aint gonna be satisfied with all energy u got lost basically 4 noth...i got a same problem...
