It really depends on many factors.
If you have a computer that can run it smoothly, then maybe.
I had to switch to Vista after my XP desktop had some problems, so we got a new computer that had Vista on it.
I have a lot of experience with computers, and any problems I've encountered I've been able to get around.
You may not like Vista if you can't handle any problems that arise.
However, I have grown attached to my new computer (with Vista) since it runs quite a bit better than my XP desktop did.
I like some of the new features in Vista, like the window layouts, the start menu, the control panel system, the reliability monitor, the problem/solution manager, and most importantly, the improved Windows Update system.
There may be other stuff that I forgot...
So in a nut-shell, you are better off sticking with the tried and true XP until you are sure that your transfer to Vista is as smooth as possible. That may be awhile, as it took a week to get something as simple as my printer to work well with Vista..
However, the wireless system in Vista works magnificently.

I installed it about a week back on my high end machine and it runs fine and seems to be stable so far.
The only problem i had was that my motherboard will not let Vista see the 4 gig of memory that is installed..it only sees 3. However that is a BIOS issue and not a Vista issue.
I think it is an OK operating system, but for the moment I would not bother paying the high amount it costs (I have the uber expensive Ultra edition), unless you really really really need to have it.
As mentioned above, XP SP2 is a good version of windows to have and will remains so for a couple of years yet....save your money and put it towards a faster machine that will benifit you more.....or lots of booze.....
Oh one thing...the inbuilt spam filter is superb....I have gone from 150+ spam mails a day to 2!!

Vista is not worth its price. Unless you have a top-of-the-line system it runs very slowly. There are still quite a few bugs in it. If you do have the hardware to be able to upgrade to Vista, I would suggest waiting until this fall so that they have the majority of the bugs fixed.
I have 2 computers running Vista and I do like it, but without good hardware it does not run very well (laptop). I also have XP Pro installed on both of these computers and I primarily use it.

Nope. Vista doesn't worth it at all. The only difference is that the graphics are better and programs respond better, but other things have dropped by a lot like not able to use certain programs like Tune-Up Utilities 2007 and that came out this year.

Vista is still receiving luke warm reviews form the industry trade rags and reviewers. It shipped with a ton of bugs and not all functions will be available until Longhorn comes out, so bottom line - NO. However, Windows 2007 does seem to be very worthwhile. Great features and well designed user experience - should be since it mimics Mac so well.

Truth is your computer use will dictate if its worth it or not.
If you log in, log on, check your mail and log off again then no, no point. If you use your PC as a multimedia workstation and entertainment system then you could benefit from it for sure.
The early bench tests indicate that it dosent out perform XP in games though VISTA optimised games may well see the gap increase. But for now at least its nothing to write home about.
Make sure your favorite software and your hardware is compatible.

I have mainly heard that it is not worth upgrading yet. There are still many things that are not fully compatible yet. I have also heard that it is not much better then XP for the price. So if you really do not need to up grade I would wait a while.

My husband HAD to have it, I'm not impressed. I tried to download a car crash report and it said it wasnt compatible with Vista, plus a few other things that are not compatible. I would say wait a bit to get it.

No. If you buy it installed on a PC its a different matter, but dont buy an upgrade its too expensive yet. There are still many pieces of software that wont run correctly & some issues with certain ISPs.
