I have to do some work on a PC with german DOS (ver 6.22) installed, can I change the language by changing the country code (from 49 to 44) and then changing it back when i have finnished?

No, but you can use ctrl-alt-F1 to get a US keyboard layout and ignore what's written on the keys. Ctrl-Alt -F2 to get the Qwertz layout back again.

No you can't the language is part of the the version of DOS that was loaded.

However your could download an image of a boot disk in English from this site:

http://oldfiles.org.uk/powerload/bootdisk.htm

Your can then boot from this floppy disk and use the DOS commands in English.

Only problem will be that the file names on the system will be in German as these were set by the user.

Set a "restore date" before proceeding, then give it a try. If it doesn't work, you will be able to return to the date when your OS was o.k.

Don't think so. If it german version than that's what you are stuck with.
