well...we would like to say we do such things because it was the right thing but lets be honest...we are flawed and can't always take the higher ground but at the very least, even if it was selfish...a greater good came of it.

If you are really connected to the creator of the universe you are very lucky, I have yet to find anyone else who is.
It has never asked me or even hinted to me to help the poor, however I believe its will to be the most moral force in existence, so forget the why and just do as it says.

i think it's both. god wants you to help others out of concern for their suffering. my theory is: be a good, charitable person and if there really is a god, you will be rewarded far more than someone who believed 100% but wasn't sincere in caring about the world

"Look at the entertainment industry they will donate a million and act like they have given their life when in reality a million bucks is nothing to them."

oh no, most celebrities are far more selfish than that. they donate because they can write it off their taxes. they'd be paying those millions anyway, it's just that if they donate the money they get a lot of positive press, too.

say you have two kids. You teach one about morality based on reason, the Golden Rule, etc. You teach the other that Santa Claus is watching him constantly and if he's good, santa will give him lots of presents. They both behave well all year. Who are you more proud of? Check and mate.

Most people do charity acts for themselves anyway. Look at the entertainment industry they will donate a million and act like they have given their life when in reality a million bucks is nothing to them.

It would be more 'moral' to help out of concern. If you are worried about God's attitude towards it, he would probably be appier if you were to do it out of the kindness of your heart, not fear of him.

As long as you help out though, it's good.
