liquid proteins do not have the same thermogenic effect as do whole food protein sources. there would be more energy expended by the body digesting and metabolizing 3.5 oz of chicken (roughly 25 grams of protein) then it would a scoop of whey protein at 25 grams.

also it has been found that the thermogenic effect of foods is lower in the obese and this is mostly likely one of several main contributors to their weight problems

i don't know, but i have been wondering the same thing myself. i usually put it in my smoothies. i wonder if it makes you gain weight? maybe whey protein should be taken after a workout, i think? i don't know about boosting metabolism.
