I am 34 and have not lifted weights in years. All I want to do is tone armes, back , chest, and the all important stomach. I did lift though collage and high school football but did not pay any attention to how it was set up because there were people there who kept up with it and told us what and how to lift. Can someone help or point me to a good website or book?

I just joined a gym too. I was told if you want to tone you lift lighter weights with more reps (about 15-20) that last rep you should feel the burn. If you dont, up the weight a little. you should do about 3 sets. If you want to bulid the musscle you need to use heavier weights and do smaller reps like 10. Also before and after lifting weights do 20 min of cardio.

Get a subscription to Men's Health. It will give you specific lifting programs with good pictures and detail that you can create your own training program by cutting out the exercises and creating your own notebook. The cardio and health tips will also be really interesting and realistic.
