it seems to me a higher rate of atheists are more familiar with math and science terms, such as rate, than christians. this is merely based on my finding in my last question on atheists and morality. any theories why? i get to punch you if you say because there are more christians than atheists.

it's obvious from the context of the question what the meaning of the word rate is. i was clearly referring to a percentage, as i stated in my question. so no, i was not simply agreeing with atheists to prove a point. atheist had a better understanding of the word.

if anything, have a lower sample size will more likely result in a higher rate.
consider a group of 5 people. if one in that group of five has been divorce, the divorce rate for that group is 20 percent. now, in a group of a hundred, you could have up to 19 people divorced and still have a lower rate than the group of 5. does that make sense? also i believe it stated somewhere in the link i provided that the numbers were based on the national population, so the sample groups were large enough to conduct a fair assessment of divorce rates from each group.

so if god supply's the answer for a math problem and you get it wrong, does that mean god doesn't understand math? and if you get it right, aren't you cheating?

i don't use caps a form of signature. also, i don't think it affects the question beings asked if i ask it in all lowercase letters. if that's the best response you can come with, you're obviously grasping for whatever intellectual highground you think you can get. don't.

first, i thought i made it clear where i got my assumption. secondly, there are more facts from my previous question backing my claim than backing a christian's claim that accepting christ is the only way to heaven. that doesn't stop christian's from proclaiming that they "know" they are right. thirdly, i was joking, so lighten up. i don't hold all christians to that standard, only the one's who trying to come off as being smarter than me, only to prove that they weren't. so get over it. as far as morality goes, read my questions on atheist and morality, buster. and frankly i wouldn't care, because one, you probably do think that, and two, i know you're wrong.

Let me first ask you...on what grounds do you make such a prejudiced statement? I assume, based on one little question you asked on yahoo answers? I find that very disappointing, and rather close minded, especially considering you have no facts or statistics to back such an absolutist claim.
Several Christians do understand the meaning of rate. Religion does not make a person any less smarter, or illiterate. I am a biochemistry major, and a relatively new Chrisitan, and I do moderately well in both of the subjects you stated. I do know the meaning of the word rate, as do a multitude of other christians...
Let me ask you, how would it make you feel if I made the absolutist statement "I've noticed that athiests that answer questions don't give moral opinions on ethical issues like cheating on a spouse, whereas Christians seem to know where their morality lies in terms of these issues" How do you digest that? You can only expect an appropriate or desired answer to your question when you can supply us with actual facts to back up your claim. So, I'm sorry, I will not answer why Christians are unfamiliar with science and math terms while athiests are, because I honestly don't believe it to be true. I know several people with their masters and what not in those fields, and they ARE Christians.
Whether you're an athiest, or belong to a religion does not define your level of literacy. Try to separate the two. They are not connected. I'm sorry, I just don't see a correlation here.
Even so, considering you are aware of basic mathematics...I would assume you'd know that even if you do find that your results show a relatively high correlation (which I don't see here because you don't have sufficient data) two variables don't particulary have to have a causal relationship. Sometimes, they are completely unrelated, or there's a third factor affecting it.
I hope you'll try to be more open-minded towards Christians, or any other religion next time! :)
To Just Curious: I don't think those kind of childish, presumtuous, and prejudiced remarks require a reply. YOU really need to take it easy...when I said that example, I was trying to make you see how offensive you were being, because you did the same thing to Christians. I don't feel that way about anyone, thank-you, because I'm not prejudiced, or filled with hatred towards anyone for being who they are, or how they choose to live their life/what they believe in. And by the way, I did read some of your previous questions....and I see one common pattern: you insulting or attacking Christians. I have no idea where all your hatred comes from...but I only hope that someday you can overcome such negative feelings.
Understand that being an athiest DOES NOT make you better than anyone else, and that being Christian does not make anyone inferior. There are things such as what you're judging here, that are determined by individual capability / interest, therefore, your claim holds no weight. Learn to understand you're not the best, and you're not always right. Embrace your humanity...
Best of luck overcoming your prejudices, stereotypes, and ego. I really do hope you can be more open-minded someday :) :)

I can't say why, but as a follower of Christ's teachings, I know when I don't have an answer to any problem, I ask God and He supplies the answer. This is the absolute truth.
I am relatively good at Mathematics - not great (rate that) and my Chemistry teacher preferred not to allow me in the class when I became too concerned with mixing certain substances. She felt it did not bode well for everyone.
Oh Well!

"i get to punch you if you say because there are more christians than atheists. "
I understand why you are saying this, but when you compare rates among two populations it is possible for size to affect the results. Both population sizes have to be above the margin of error for whatever you are looking at.

Your use of rate in the capacity of math and science is actually quite ambiguous given the variables of defining rate in both.
Perhaps you might better postulate as to why more people who are familiar with math and science and are practicing atheists answered your question within your acceptable terms than Christians who provided opinions based upon faith judgements outside of your acceptable terms.

I'm a Christian, I understand the meaning of the word rate, and you've misused the word in your question.
Most Christians also know how to put a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence. Most of us also know how to write a complete thought before ending a sentence.

I'm not sure I understand the question. It could be that there are many Christan religions that do not respect or teach math and science.

Luckily this is not about understanding the meaning of the word rate. We Christians understand the main thing: we need Jesus for our salvation.
