"That terrible day of the LORD is near. Swiftly it comes – a day when strong men will cry bitterly. It is a day when the LORD's anger will be poured out. It is a day of terrible distress and anguish, a day of ruin and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, of clouds, blackness, trumpet calls, and battle cries. Down go the walled cities and strongest battlements! "Because you have sinned against the LORD, I will make you as helpless as a blind man searching for a path. Your blood will be poured out into the dust, and your bodies will lie there rotting on the ground." Your silver and gold will be of no use to you on that day of the LORD's anger. For the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy. He will make a terrifying end of all the people on earth. (Zephaniah 1:7:18 NLT)

Yikes,

Do people really encourage their kids read this stuff?

Would Christians feel comfortable letting their kids watch a movie where this scene is shown accurately. Should the Old Testament be required to have a warning label placed on it similarly to Records with adult themes?

Kakylale, are you saying that if I state that the lord is violent, he will make me as helpless as a blind man, and poor my blood into the dust and leave my rotting body on the ground, in order to prove that I am wrong and he isn't violent?

That is the same a muslims shooting nuns in the back to prove that they aren't violent and the pope was wrong.

NUTS...

Oh that God he really does have quite a temper doesn't he, when did he have a change of heart and turn into the God of Love that I keep hearing about?

Sounds partly like a volcanic eruption. I'll have to lock my doors in case the believers come a'knockin.

Seriously. "It is a day when the LORD's anger will be poured out. It is a day of terrible distress and anguish, a day of ruin and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, of clouds, blackness, trumpet calls, and battle cries." This is conceivably an eruption. The Lord's anger pours out(lava), terrible distress and anguish(obvious), same with ruin and desolation. A day of darkness and gloom, of clouds, blackness(the ash sent into the atmosphere would cloud the sky and make it black), the battle cries and trumpet calls are likely pissed off people.

Blind man searching for a path, again hard to do in blackness. Not sure about the rest, but yeah you couldn't buy your way outta that one.

Wouldn't be the end though, just the eruption of some big volcano, it'd go back to normal after a while. On the plus side it might help curtail climate change.

But my guess is the story came from a volcanic eruption, maybe the believers saw god in it.

God hates violence.
Sadly, this is what men have come to deserve.
It doesn't have to be that way though.
"For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ."
(I Thessalonians 5:9)

But you, why are you storing up wrath for yourself?
Do you really think you are going to prove yourself to be more righteous than God?
You are just increasing your own pain.
Repent, and believe the Gospel.

The god of the Old Testament is certainly a terrorist. It's amazing those who believe that type of behavior has anything to do with the divine.

The reason for this is that the version of god that originated in the mid-east religions was based on the Anannaki. The Garden of Eden story was based on them also.

Death is not a bad thing.

All suffering is temporary.

Live well and be spared the Last Wrath.

We can not know the meaning of terrible acts on earth...only that they will pass and the righteous will be rewarded forever.

The bible is historical progression of mankind. The old testament is mostly law; do this and dont do that. The new testament is grace revealed by Jesus Christ. I am a Christian so I concentrate on grace, not law. I doubt mankind would appreciate grace without the old testament of law.

God isn't evil, if this day does come then its because we have done something terrible wrong to deserve it, like people believing the the lord is violent, but if everybody just believed and loved God then he would give us nothing but love back

If God is a completely just judge, then why wouldn't the evil men suffer on judgement day.

And if people weren't always insulting Him, spitting on his followers, etc, etc. He wouldn't be so angry. You ignored the warnings you were given, then you are surprised when Father got angry. If your father tells you over and over not to do something, you will be punished. You are warned, then action is taken. If action is being taken, you obviously did not listen and thus deserve what is coming to you.
