There are still plenty of lawyers and people with doctorates in English who believe in talking snakes or Native Americans from Jerusalem. Does it really change anything?

Critical thinking skills, common sense, logical thinking etc. are all according to the ability of the individual. While some can toss around all the book knowledge in the world, some of those are lacking common sense and others lack an ability to think logically, etc. or some combination of the above.

A person's education is not necessarily illustrative of their other abilities or lack thereof. A college degree is simply a piece of paper that says you paid your tuition fee at an accredited place of learning, and made the minimun passing grade for that institution's requirements.

"Does it really change anything?"

Would there still be political debates about abortion, gay marriage, sex education, the HPV vaccine, stem cell research, and evolution if no one was basing their thinking off of the Bible?

It certainly seems like a lot of people have trouble "turning them on and off".
