Massage, heating pad, spa or hot tub. Shrug your shoulders often if you sit in front of a computer all day, helps loosen the muscles.

I take Aleve. I use Icy Hot patches. I put one in the middle of the area where I'm having the most pain. I lay on a heating pad. Later I get in hot water and soak. Lately... I've been wondering if the neck and shoulder pain I have could have anything to do with arthritis, since I have extreme knee pain as well. So I've been taking a supplement you can get over-the-counter called Lubriflex or joint M.D., there are lots of different brands as long as it has glucosamine in it. I have noticed improvement. I hope this helps you!

Tension may be the 'trigger', but something must be susceptible in your neck to that trigger. You may want to see your family Chiropractor for an evaluation to determine what the underlying problem is and to have it properly treated.

Best wishes and good luck.
