Absolutely. Include it in the price, so that when she says "$20: you think "$23" or "$24." She'll be delighted.

tip her a little but not the way you would tip a waitress! Take into account that she has to pay for the material and this is kind of her job. If you have ever worked somewhere that you can get tips it feels good so always try! also would you get it cheaper at her house or at a salon? When you like it and she did it exactly as you wanted give her a bigger tip.

Yeah, throw her a few extra bucks. Obviously, if she is doing this independently in her home, she is in need of money. I would tip her, she is technically doing you a favor. $70 for a cut and color is cheap. In a salon, that would cost over $100. You're saving money, so give her like 10 extra dollars or so.

Yes, that is a very cheap price to pay for a cut and color! I would say tip her about 10 bucks or so.

Your neighbor(based on the information you give us) isn't working for profit, $20.00 for a haircut, and $50.00 for a tint is too much. Since she is probably working to survive, don't tip her, but be thankful, and see if you can offer her an on the spot service(like sweeping the floor, etc) instead. If she refuses, take your business some place else.

Yes, she is giving you a really good deal. It would be nice of you to tip her. Even with a substantial tip you are still getting the service for much less than you would at a salon.

Hi,
normally I would suggest tipping every person who provides you with a service, but when the person is the 'owner' of the business, and not reliant on tips to make up a minimum wage, then the price quoted is all you should pay.
(after all, if you went to a restaurant you would tip the waiter/waitress but you wouldn't tip the owner, would you?
She makes her money by charging what she thinks is a sufficient amount to satisfy her monetary needs, she doesn't need the tip.
Hope that helps,
BobSpain

YES! The cost of color and highlight alone is about $135 to get it professionally done. She is still a professional, but chooses to work at home and just saved you a bunch of money...

It is always good etiquette to tip. Since she is not working for someone, does that make her any less of a stylist? I think not, and I would certainly tip her. Besides, when in doubt, what harm can come from tipping?

Tipping is a sign of appreciation- and yes, it is customary to tip a stylist roughly 15% of what they are charging. Where that money goes does not matter. If you feel that she does a good job, tip her. Good Luck.
