Interesting with NASA, Green is for Safety. White is a general all purpose color worn by most.

Usually colors have no specific representation of function unless specifically described by an organization or company.

This isn't something that you can really nail down. It depends on the practices of the company or the department.

About the only hardhat i've ever seen that has been pretty universal has been that of the Ironworkers and if you do a google search for "Ironworker hardhat" you should be able to find out what they look like.

There is no hard and fast rule. It changes from organization to organization. Around here, white is general. Yellow is for electricians. Orange is for prison crews.
