Jesus is the Son of God on His Father's side. Jesus is also a Jew on His mother's side. Consider the Virgin Mary's family line. Mary was the daughter of Joachim and Anna. If you look up there genealogy in the Bible either Joachim or Anna can be traced back to King David. So, on His mother's side Jesus is probably the great (no telling how many greats) grandson of King David. Keep in mind, this was a time when people had like a 20-word vocabulary. There were no words for stepfather, half-sister, grandmother, best friend, cousin, etc. People described some of their relatives and even unrelated friends as brothers and sisters and grandparents were called by name like "Name begot (insert father's name) who begot you (insert grandchild's name). We don't know what the heck they meant but the people of that time and of that village who knew them knew the difference.

Jesus is the Son of God, but God said that the Messiah would come from David's blood line...and He did. That's why He is referred to as Son of David. And David was a great Israeli King of the Old Testament.

Remember he had a human mother!!
On his mother's side, Jesus was descended from the tribe of Benjamin. King David was one of his ancestors, as was Ruth.
You remember King David--killed Goliath, wrote a lot of the Psalms, Solomon's dad? That's him.
They refer to Jesus as "son of David" because David is a symbol of Christ in some of the Psalms that talk about the eternal kingship of Christ. He was also "a shepherd (of the people) after God's own heart" which is another symbol of Jesus.

David, as in, David and Goliath.
David was a little shephard boy who slayed the giant man Goliath as the Lord told the first King if Israel - Saul - that he would. And he did so with a sling and stone.
After many years at Sauls right hand side, Saul then becaume fearful of David (because the then prophet of the times prophesied David to become King) and then spent his remaining years hunting him down, but David swore to protect the King, and he honourd that oath.
After Saul died, David was made King (Messiah) of Israel.
All Davids lineage is/was heir to the throne of Israel.
Saul was the first King of Israel, and was elected by the population.
David was chosen by God to be Israels King.
A few hundred years later, two of King Davids descendants (Both Mary and Joseph) had a baby and named him Yashua, or, as we know him today, Jesus - meaning "God Saves".
Jesus is said to be the son of David because he is Davids heir. As were many people.
But Jesus' claim was said by many to be the most true, because, unlike his ancestor David, Jesus was himself a prophet of God.
David was one of Israels greatest Kings, and was the first to fortify the country and rule the Kingdom wisely, according to the Law of God.
His son was King Solemon, who went wayward from the Law, have many hundred wifes and concubines, and stored a vast wealth of Gold.
David is attributed the Book of Psalms, and Solemon the Song of Songs.
Hope that helps.

The lineage promise made to King David of the Old Testament was that a great King would come from his lineage, this king would not only be ruler of the Kingdom on earth but also a ruler in Heaven. Jesus lineage is traced back to King David, keeping the Davidic Covenant. In other words another prophesy fulfilled in proof that Christ is King, Prophet and Servant. He was given this title by the author of the New Testament Matthew read it if you wish, Matthew 1:1-17
God bless you and thanks for the opportunity to spread the truth.

David as in King David, the one who killed Goliath. Jesus was born from the lineage of David. Check out Luke 3:31-32. Its not father like as in ones biological father, which it could be, but more on the lines of great grandfather.

Jesus is the son of God. The man who raised him, Joseph, was a decendant of David, the King of Israel (see genealogy in Matthew Chapter 1). His mother Mary was also a decendant of David (see geneaology in Luke chapter 3, Heli was Mary's father's name) as they were cousins. It was prophesied in the Old Testament that the saviour would be born from David's decendants. Which is why they refer to him as the son of David as well.

Try reading the whole bible. Jesus was the son of Joseph and Mary. Yes, Jesus is the Son of God, but he had to get here somehow, so he is also the physical child of Joseph and Mary. Capice? Good. Now, in the Old Testament, various prophets (Elijah, Ezekiel, etc.) fortold that the Son of God would be born of the line of King David, who was one of the greatest kings of Israel back when Israel still had kings. I think David was also King Solomon's father, but I may have that backwards. Joseph was decended from the line of David. Got it? The way things are worded in various parts of the bible, when they talk about "begats" and whatnot, Jesus is sometimes referred to as being a "son of David" because he is considered to be decended through the line of David.

Jesus is the Son of God.
He was called the Son of David, because he came from the lineage of King David.
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, "What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?
The son of David," they replied.
Jesus said to them, "How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls Him Lord?
"The Lord said to my Lord;
Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies under your feet."
If then David calls Him Lord, how can He be His Son?
No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask Him any more questions.
