I'm 20 years old and sometimes I'll have hip pain. sometimes after sitting cross legged, or just having one leg in the cross legged position, i'll experience pain in the leg that was in the cross legged position. this occurs when i try to rotate my leg and bring it to what i think is the default position (legs together, feet facing forward). it hurts right where the leg meets the hip (i'm assuming the socket?). this only lasts for a little while and goes away very rapidly (within minutes). it doesn't really feel like pain, but discomfort.
also sometimes while i'm walking, i'll feel a slight discomfort in the same area. this will go away after a few minutes as well.

Hi Jennifer. There are a lot of potential causes for the pain you describe. Some examples:

1) Myofascial triggerpoints in one or more of the hip flexor muscles

2) Subluxation of the hip joint

3) Subluxation of the sacroiliac joint

4) Subluxation and/or myofascial triggerpoints in the lumbar spine.

5) Short/tightened hamstring muscles inducing a secondary strain on the hip flexor muscles.

You may want to see your family Chiropractor for an evaluation and proper diagnosis of the cause of this problem. Left alone, the long term consequences of joint/muscle dysfunction can be degenerative changes in that joint (loosely termed osteoarthritis).

Best wishes and good luck.

the hip flexor ligaments can sometimes be hereditary tight
Its most likely something you shouldn't worry about too much.. it will cause a slightly increased discomfort a little more as you age
try yoga to gently stretch the ligaments
