I just bought a used 1998 Ford Escort SE. The car only has a tape player which to me looks like it's wired to the temp. controls. Can I install a cd player? How do I start?

You need a special kit that replaces the entire radio/climate control plate. The switch modules for the climate controls will be removed from the factory assembly and mounted on the new kit. It's all quite a bit easier than it sounds, and all the wiring you need will be included with the kit. Just be sure to follow the directions exactly. You will also need a set of Ford radio removal tools.

Most stereos these days use standard ISO connections, so its literally just pull the plugs out and replace with the new ones.

However, some manufacturers use their own standard (Vauxhall are buggers for this) so it may be best to have it professionally fitted.

Unless you're a dab hand with a soldering iron, then its an easy job of slodering the ISO connectors to the exisiting wiring.

Disconnect the battery first to be on the safe side.
