If you read the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown or watch the new movie, it discusses it. When people say the holy grail is in in this painting, they aren't talking about a cup, but of Mary Magdelene, who is a controversy in herself. The beliefs that are brought out in the Da Vinci Code say that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, and they had a child. If you can imagine, christians who have based their whole faith on Jesus and the bible would not want to believe this, because it goes against everything they have ever believed. Also, one of the 12 apostles is holding a knife in a supposingly threatening manner. Also, in the Da Vinci Code it goes in depth about the blade and chalice which represent man and woman. They are triangle shapes. It is said that mary magdalene and Jesus fform one of these shapes. I can't remember which one it is, but it is the one that stands for woman and her fertility. I really think you should read the book, because it explains it all a lot better.

The figure that is supposedly John looks an awfully lot like a woman (Mary Magdalene?). If you look closely you can even see the hint of swell of a bosom, although it is so subtle it could just be a humping of cloth.

It's all in the eye of the beholder.

The holy grail is supposed to be in the picture, however there are no cups of any sort on the table.
