It's hard to turn it off and on?

bad switch ..change it before you mess up the column.
.they used three different ones..
so you need to remove yours before you can buy the new one..less than $20..
most ford pickups will do this at some point

I own a shop, and it could be a couple of things. The cylinder of the lock may be coming apart, and needing replaced. It could be the rod that runs down to the switch bent, or binding for some reason. The switch may be coming apart or the steering wheel lock is binding, bent, or about to fall apart.
One last thing; Are you turning the switch off with the steering wheel turned slightly? If it is not in a relaxed position when you turn it off, it will be very hard to operate at times.

The ignition switch must be worn or your key is worn and not making the cylinders line up. Either way, you need to get it fixed. Good luck
