A night guard may provide some temporary relief while you work to diagnose the CAUSE of this problem.

Some examples of causes of TM joint dysfunction include:

1) whiplash (car accidents, sports injuries, falls, etc.)

2) nutritional deficiencies/imbalances (magnesium deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, etc.)

3) Food intolerances (e.g. allergies to the group of foods known as 'nigthshades')

4) Chronic dental infections (that usually are NOT apparent) following root canals, tooth extractions and other major dental procedures

5) Chronic intestinal dysbiosis and/or leaky gut syndrome resulting in absorption of gut bacteria and/or their toxic metabolites.

A knowledgeable health care provider will need to take a thorough history and perform appropriate examination procedures to help you identify the underlying cause of your jaw problem. Then, proper treatment can be focused on fixing the cause.

You may want to consult with your family Chiropractor and/or family Naturopathic Physician to help you with this challenging problem.

Best wishes and good luck.
