Yes, you can own a .50 caliber rifle in Michigan. No registration or permit required for rifles.

Just about anywhere in the US is fine. Not Kalifornia though because the morons in Sacto thought some hoodlum would go hold up a 7-11 with an 80 pound $6000 rifle six feet long. The LA PD provided one of their Barrett 50s as a prop to support the ban and last I heard they couldn't get spares, repairs or new rifles from Barrett any more. Go Barrett!
I'd vote for the 338 Lapua too, the AI AW Super Magnum please. Oh no! I've drooled all over myself :D

As stated above, yes it's legal in Michigan and many other free states, The peoples republic of Kalifornia of course won't allow it, several other communist states won't allow it either, but the vast majority will. I really don't understand this sudden fascination with the 50bmg caliber rifles, to me they're over rated( I've fired close to 1000 rounds thru barrets, McMillan and Knight rifles) I'd rather have a .338 lapua or 300 winmag for heavy hitting at long distance, the rifles are 1/4 the weight and a LOT easier to maneuver. Bigger isn't always better.

In Michigan you can own and shoot a 50 cal. We dont have any restrictions on 50 cal rifles. Some shooting ranges may have restrictions, but that would be there rules and not Michigan law.
hope this helps

I am 100 % backing boker_magnum 338 lapua is by far the better and more forgiving on the wallet when it comes time to buy ammo.
Plus I’ve noticed that around here a lot of ranges are no longer allowing the 50 BMG to be fired.
You might wont to check around and see if where you shoot it is and will remain allowed.
I for one would hate to buy one and have no place to play with it.
I was thanking about one my self just for the fun of it.
But I am now glad I diverted off it was not that special.
That my opinion.

I have to agree with boker, there are other options. I always say if cost isn't an issue, go for it! But the bigger the caliber, the harder it is to find places to shoot. There are several rifles that can reach out and touch something/one. Although if you do get a chance, the Barrett M82 is fun to shoot! And for whatever it's worth, .50BMG is legal in Wisconsin too!

Sniper is a job description (MOS), and doesn't really apply to rifles, but if you mean a rifle shooting the 50 BMG round like the Barrett or McMillan, sure. Long-range paper-punchers were using them before the military.

Sniper Rifle = BS Media Term for rifle with scope.
oh you mean my deer rifle with a scope.
Yes it is legal to own them, along with all kinds of other firearms that are scary looking and seem to make liberals pee themselves...
