I just started going to the gym last week. I have a personal trainer so I know im working out the correct way. But when I started going i weighed 188. Now I weigh 190. I know Its just a few pounds but I have never been up to 190. Why did i gain and not lose? A few pounds is a big deal to me!!!!!!

Muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are using weight training machines more than you are using cardiovascular machines, you have gained muscle mass. I would not worry about pounds if I were you. Because you are working out, you will be gaining alot of muscle, and you'll drive yourself crazy if you just concentrate on loosing pounds. Just worry about how you feel after working out. If you begin to see improvements in your body form, what does it matter how much you weigh? No one has to know that number except you.

It's muscle, dear. Muscle is denser than fat, so it doesn't take much to show up on the scale. But muscle is a magical thing. It helps you burn off fat! So it's a good thing. You aren't gaining fat, you're gaining fat-burning muscle and that will help you get to the weight you want to be. Would you rather be 10 pounds over your "ideal" weight and be toned and strong or would you rather be at your ideal weight and be listless and weak and anorexic? Think about it and stay away from that damned scale! It's not just about the number!

Muscle weighs more than fat. As you build muscle, you may notice a slight gain until you really start to burn the fat and those pounds fall off more quickly.

A better key to telling weightloss is to measure yourself (waist, hips, bust, arms, thighs). Are your clothes more tight or loose? That's how you can tell if the increase on the scales is an increase or decrease in your physical size.

If your diet has not changed at all (no extra treats to reward yourself.... fess up now) then don't worry about it. The extra weight will come off as your program continues. Something else to consider is that muscle has more mass than fat. You could conceivably lose fat but add muscle mass and therefore gain weight.
Just keep up the workouts, you'll see and feel the difference.

Don't worry. It's just water weight. That's why nutritionists and doctors always say to weigh yourself only once a week.
Or............who knows. Maybe your workout is so good that you actually gained 2 lbs of muscle. Not likely in just a week but it's either that or water weight.

Because when you work out you turn muscle to fat.muscle weighs 2x as much as fat. you will lose the weight if you stick with it don't worry. but for the first month measure your waist, bust, thighs, and upper arms to determine your real success the inches will go before the pounds.

Because muscle weighs more than fat and when you start working out most times you will gain before you lose because you are toning up your body and gaining muscle.

Since it's only been one week it's probably not muscle gain. And it's only 2 pounds, so it's probably just normal fluctuation. Another reason may be that you are eating more because you are exercising. Congrats on doing something good for yourself.
