I have chronic kidney failure, once it was diagnosed I had to take various tablets to try to delay it, so I had blood test every week until I was taken in hospital, so it was only four to five weeks of weekly blood test I had. Since then I had been on dialysis at home everynight for 8 hours and now have had a kidney transplant. If you are talking about your GP he should of referred you to a Renal Doctor at your hospital.

I have instage renal disease, but now have had a transplant. I think it all depends on how well the kidneys are still working, it has been awhile but I do believe I went once a month for labs until they finally put me on dialysis, your kidneys have to functioning at a certain percent before they will start dialysis.

How long a Dr. waits between ordering blood tests is entirely up to the Dr. He will decide based on both your current and past history with the diseased organ.

I agree with "Hope". How frequently labs are ordered depends on what the physician feels is appropriate. It can be every month, every 3 months, every 6 months, it depends on the specific condition and the rate of its progression. As well, some labs shouldn't be performed as often as others. If the doctor is looking for a trend over time, then enough time must elapse between labs for comparison. 3 months isn't unreasonable.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

A doctor will order blood and.or urine tests as s/he sees fit. That will always vary according to a lot of things, including the results of the last set of tests.
