Do they use God's name in vain?
If the name of God is Jehovah and the witnesses believe that they are the true religion and that they have the true translation of the bible and that there are only 144,000 to make it to heaven and those 144 thousand are considered true Jehovah Witnesses. Therefore, isn't that a vain way of using the Lord God's name?

I talk to a JW nearly every day for the past 7 years. Although I know that the 144,000 are not JW in name, but from what I keep gathering is that the JW's believe that the great men from the Bible(Abraham, Moses, etc.) are those that will be "governing" in Heaven(like God is limited) but those that are yet to be in Heaven are in fact, true JW's.
Maybe I should post this question on a different post, but why do JW's follow false prophets? They had "prophesized that Christ would come back on several occasion since the 1880's. Do they not know that God is never wrong, there for God's prphecies are never wrong?

No.

Interestingly, even the Encyclopaedia Judaica says that “the avoidance of pronouncing the name YHWH ... was caused by a misunderstanding of the Third Commandment.”

(Psalms 83:18) That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth

(John 17:26) [Jesus said] I have made your name known to them and will make it known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them

The bible uses the Divine Name ("YHWH" or "Jehovah") nearly SEVEN THOUSAND TIMES. The bible writers refer to the Almighty by His personal name more times than by "God", "Lord", and "Father" COMBINED. There is no other personal name used in the bible more than the personal name of Almighty God. It seems clear that Jehovah wants his name to be used, while insisting that the Name be used respectfully.

Short answer, No.

Less Short answer, You have been misinformed about our beliefs. We do not think that only 144,000 Jehovah's Witnesses will be "saved" and/or that these are the "true" Jehovah's Witnesses.

While it is true we feel that 144,000 will be, and mostly are, in heaven, we feel that many of these never even knew the title Jehovah's Witness.

As for those not going to heaven, we feel that these ones will get to fullfill Jehovah's original plan of living forever on a Paradise Earth.

Next time a Witness comes by your door you should pose this question to them.

Ishvarlan.... you said "While it is true we feel that 144,000 will be, and mostly are, in heaven, we feel that many of these never even knew the title Jehovah's Witness."

I keep seeing references to the fact that more than just JWs will be saved. With that in mind, how can you say it is the ONE true religion? Would it not be true then, that the Bible, and your personal relationship with God is what counts, and not which organization you belong to?

They use Gods personal name so much, like they are on the same footing, or equal. I think it shows gross disrespect to throw the name around so flaigrantly. The reason the name only appears a few times in the old testament is that the copy writers were loath to write the name, or speak it aloud, out of fearful respect. They are using Gods name in vain, and the Lords. They are heaping fiery coals upon thier heads.

No. Although I do not believe in the JWs, their use of God's name is fine. Now, they worship another god, because they don't accept the bodily Resurrection of our Lord.

it certainly goes against jewish tradition - you are not supposed to say jehovah. Every time it is written you read adonai instead which is another name for god.
