Keeping the refrigerator clean really helps. Baking soda also helps absorb odors. I like to keep things in covered containers or plastic bags whenever possible - that way odors are neither spread nor absorbed.
My husband recently got me an Oreck refrigerator purifier. I think they are somewhat expensive - but this one was free with another Oreck product. We haven't used it long enough to tell whether or not it works well. (Besides, I still have everything in containers.)

Besides baking soda, wrap your odorous foods in tightl containers, especially leftover onion and garlic. Wrap cheeses in plastic wrap then foil. Keep your produce in the crispe, your butter in a dish with a lid. Thoroughly clean your fridge every 3 mos.

Baking soda works wonders. Just make sure you rip the cover of the box and put it on the lowest rack. Change it once a month.
