Most tanks still retain the capability to fire indirectly (like artillery). There is a wide-held belief that the M1 Abrams cannot but, it is able. Most tanks therefore have a similar range as artillery probably somewhere in the 15 km range. (I am estimating this lower than regular artillery, I cannot find indirect fire stats anywhere on line). This is very rare however.
In the direct fire role most tanks fire to a range of about 4 km. You will see shorter ranges if you look them up or even conflicting ranges. This is because, although most tanks can engage a target out to this range, the sights are not capable of providing a clear enough picture for proper target identification beyond 2.5 km. So the range is really dependent upon your ability to be sure of your target and your doctrine. Some countries are not so worried about verifying their targets.
All Russian tanks can fire a missile through their main gun as well. The newest missile is supposed to have a range of 6kms.
The Paladin is Self-Propelled Artillery and not at all a tank.

The biggest American tank can fire a shell two miles. With tank fired missiles, who knows - probably classified - as it should be.
