We can't eliminate terrorism but we can eliminate terrorists. We can seize their bank accounts, bomb their bases and make it very, very, hot for them to operate. The only other options is:
1) Do nothing and hope it goes away.
2) Surrender to their demands then no-doubt they'll just demand more.
The USA and the rest of the world live in the 21st century. The fundamentalists want to turn the clock back to the 13th century. So how can you reconcile the two?
Then the Palestinians want Israel to cease to exist and replaced with a palestinian state. Can the USA and the west agree to that possibility?

This is a new and particularly virulent threat. These people will stop a nothing. We have never faced an enemy like this before. As such, the book is being written as we go. Certainly, the military plays a huge role in denying the enemy countries that they can control and use as bases.
There is also an enormous amount of work to be done to deny them funding, equipment, armaments etc. We must spy on their communications and use every method available to protect innocent lives.
Military, law enforcement and intelligence all have a major role.
Terrorism will be eliminated once the causes and conditions that breed it are cleaned up.

Terrorism is actually quite easy to define, and as you pointed out, we aren't even concerned with all terrorists, just the islamofascists. The war in Iraq can help curb terrorism, because if we can establish a democracy, and we can keep it from becoming an Iranian puppet, it will help to stabilize the rest of the middle east. The more democratic countries, the less poverty and oppression, the less terrorism.

Eliminate? probably not, since it is basically preached to the masses. We also will likely never win the war against crime, but since it is a problem that affects civilians, we should always have police out in force to combat it, even if some of them will be killed in the line of duty from time to time. Even if sometimes there are crooked cops who are as bad as the criminals. You can't just turn away from a problem because fighting the problem raises other ugly issues or because there is no solid solution.

We need to use the spy services and secretive methods, not send in the Marines to storm the beach.
The "war on terror" is not the same as WW2. Don't use a sledgehammer on a job that needs tweezers.

There have been terrorist for many, many years.
Does blowing up or killing a family member create an American sympathizer or a new Terrorist?
If you killed my kid, I'd be a radical the next day. It's a pure basic human emotion...it's called REVENGE.
What if a democratic Iraq decides they want a terrorist base of government? What if they allow terrorist to organize under their democratic system.
Like America has no terrorist? Freedom allows radicals.

Eliminate no but it's a lot of fun killing them which makes it harder for them to terrorize and where else can you get such a willing moving target?

No we can't. Everyday we drop bombs on Islamic people we create new extremist and play into the hands of their propaganda.
The problem is that we can't just sit on our hands and wait for another attack on American soil.
I don't know how to solve this problem permanently but since we have engaged in war on foreign soil, we haven't been attacked at home. So we at least have that going for us.

We can win the war on terrorism just as easily as we can win the war on drugs or the war on racism.

i wouldnt say we are throwing gas on a fire more like throwing, asprine on,... i dont know somthign that wont go away with asprine LOL this is more a stand to show that if you attack the us we will retaliate. trying to eliminate all terorrism would requier a complete change on the planet but what we are doing in the middle east and other areas is trying to halt the spread of terorrism to the US and to retaliate on who attacked us. we are stoping terorrists by giveing the iraqi governement a government that can fight terorr and scince they have seen it up clsoe they will be more likly to help us in our fight which is like a domino effect.
