I have acrobat 7.0 and I know how to do it manually. What I want is an automated way to convert a doc to a pdf. Preferrablly I would want some command line way to do this so I can script the input and output. If there is no command line way perhaps some way to link into a acrobat DLL and convert it via VB6? I tried something called PDF converter but it did not convert the PDF correctly with the format being off. I have to convert over 22,000 docs so I can't check each one so I want to be assured that what I get on the output is exactly what is seen as the word document. Why in the world is there no automated functionality with acrobat, at least that I have been able to search for lol. Please Help! Thanks in advance.

I was able to find a code snippet to use open office to convert it from a command line path that I will shell from an app that is browsing a database with a UNC path to the document. I tested it out and it seems to work fine. Thanks for all the responses.

Here is a linke to how to do it for anyone else that has this problem:

You can try using OpenOffice Org(OOo) which is similar to MS Word. Make this OOo ur default for all ur doc files. It has an automatic converter to pdf !
Hope this helps!!

If you have Adobe acrobat, & not just the reader version then all you have to do is re-open the word document from Adobe Acrobat. It will convert the Word file into PDF, the all you have to do is save the new file that was created.

To convert Word Documents to PDF I use PDF995 free download at: http://www.pdf995.com/
The way it works is it installs as a Printer Driver and it list itself as an availble Printer. When you want to convert a Word Doc to PDF just click; File, Print, an don the Printer Dialog Box choose the PDF995 Printer and click OK. It then ask you where to save it to just like when you save a Word Doc normally. That's it!
I like it cause is easy and I have no probles with it at all.

PDF Pro is batch pdf converter with a fully functional 45 day trial

but 22,000 docs! Even allowing for a 1% error rate, that's a lot of docs...

I use Expert PDF - it can handle batch conversion too

This is the best source I have found for you.

There is a free trial version that can download to test out. They also have a section of their site you can upload the individual files to, although with 22,000 that would not be practical.

You'll most likely need a program like "Omni Page Pro" to accomplish this. The program actually lets you do batch conversion, and it allows for "proof-reading" previews before those files are converted.

Get it here...............

Edit : You might also want to consider handing this task over to a place like FedEx Kinkos, where they could possibly give you a quicker turn-around time than if you did it yourself, but at a cost. I'd call them up to see at least. :)

22,000 docs, not likely.

If you are trying to let non-M$-Office users read your files, why not link them to Microsoft's free Word Viewer within your web page?
