I think you can get out of it. My history teacher back in high school was in the military and use to tell us ways to get out of it and one was failing your physical... but people on here are saying you do it and stop being afraid, well I got something to say to them... I have a friend in the army and he hates every second of it... he don't know if he will be alive the next morning let alone in an hour, he is mentally disturbed forever... when he went to visit me a couple months ago, every noise he heard he jumped and looked where it came from b/c he was afraid of his surroundings... I say try to get out of it if you can b/c you WILL need to see a psychiatrist when you get out. And these veterans hospitals are doing nothing for the veterans.

I am only going to help you because I cannot stand the tought of you in my military.
You can still get out. You do not officially belong to any branch of the service until you take the oath right before you are shipped to boot camp. Yes, you did take an oath when you originally signed all of your paperwork, but you can still backout.
You need to go to your recruiter NOW. S/he won't be happy. They will probably tell you that you cannot backout, but stick to your guns. You can get out. Just tell him that your circumstances have changed and you don't want to go.
Keep in mind that you probably will never to able to serve in the armed forces again. This will not affect your public record, but you will be flagged in the military system.
Think long and hard about this. There are so many benefits to serving in the military. But, if it isn't right for you, please do not do it. You will cause yourself and those around you a lot more harm than good if you just do it for the hell of it.
Good luck.

Yes, you can back out as late as when you first get to basic and the drill sergeants are telling everybody who doesn't really want to be there to raise their hands. However, I'd suggest taking care of this sooner rather then later.
Are you sure you really want to back out though? The military really isn't as bad as everybody thinks it is. Everybody is nervous before they leave, just try to have as much fun as you can and not think about your ship date until you're on the plane. As long as you keep your head down and do what they tell you when you're there it's not bad at all. I actually had a lot of fun.
Also, I'm not sure about what kind of contract you signed but talk to your recruiter about maybe becoming Reserve or National Guard (depending on what branch you went into). That way you can go to basic and finish all your training and then come back and go back to school on the military's bill.
Personally, I think you should try to see this through, it's a great thing that not everybody gets to experience. Whatever you decide to do though, good luck...

write a letter detailing why you want to quit. You're not in anything yet, you're just a DEP. You're not officially in until you swear in the second time.
Now, all you did was reserve your training seat? Does it suck that you screwed someone out of that training seat because you're a quiiter? Yes. Oh well.
If you're National Guard, that's another story. Now you'll actually be issued an NGB-22/220 and a discharge letter that you better keep if you decide to man up someday and try to join again.

Legally you at the instant are not enlisted and obligated until you have been sworn into provider. whether you signed a freelance you are able to wreck that because of the fact which you gained no 'attention' (improve pay, a greenback and love, kisses, etc) in replace on your promise. So, in simple terms walk. OTOH, you are able to desire to stay with your self and what you're all your life. i'm no longer able to inspire you to connect, even although I did, decrease than probability of eminent draft, 40 years in the past (and grow to be then lots much less savvy than human beings as we communicate). yet now, finding back, i'm happy that I did connect and fulfill my dedication. you are able to desire to examine the variety you are able to experience in 40 years. Like FDR, "I hate conflict." although, for our united states and way of life to undergo it incredibly is a obligatory evil in the present day and a few could desire to soak up the combat. stable luck after all with in spite of will become your destiny.

Hey, you can go to college free in the military.
Grow a pair and follow through with your commitment to serve our country. Seriously, stop being a spoiled little boy who's got a case of cold feet. There are OPTIONS in the military. It's not a prison term, for crying out loud.

There are many sites and I would suggest that you get out as soon as possible. We do not want wimps wearing our uniforms. Chances are that later you will be a chicken hawk and you would not have a problem sending other parents' kids to fight because you don't know what it is to serve. The Armed Forces is not for everybody and not everybody is for the Armed Forces, be a wimp and weasel your way out of something that you committed to, your word and commitment means nothing and chances are that you will continue to do the same for the rest of your life.

It depends.. were your under the age of 18? were you sworn in and finger printed? If your signed up and had your physical, finger prints and sworn in then good luck doing your sworn duty. Its an honor to serve your country.. If you were in the delayed entry program then just show up the morning your suppose to and say you changed your mind. With the delayed entry program your only swearing into the delayed entry program which alot of people don't realize.

My husband always says you aren't officially in the military until you get on that plane to go to basic..... BEFORE they invest any money in you, lol. Talk to your recruiter and let him/her know you are not going to enlist anymore. BE FIRM!!!! They will try to tell you you cant that you are stuck now blah blah blah. Get out now becuase it will be too late soon. The military isn't a place for people who don't want to be there and aren't willing to give it their all.

in the past it has been that you could change your mind anytime before basic training. Right now enlisted people whose time is up can't come home if they've been deployed so I don't know. The rules are constantly changing.
