A warrant is a order for the police to arrest you and bring you before a court. This can be because of a crime you have been charged with, a violation of parole or probation, and even failure to pay child support

So when the police find this person, they will be arrested and taken to the jail to awit a hearing.

In some cases if this is a serious crime, the police will actually go look, search hosues, question people, and the such. In some cases they just luck on to them, by tips, people giving them up, or by luck from a traffic stop for speeding and the such

When there is a "warrant" for your arrest, you are wanted to appear in court for something. Soemone's charged you, or you've violated a probation, they think you have to answer for something they think you may have been involved with. It doesn't mean you're going to prison, although if you don't pay attention to it, it could get worse. Have someone, a lawyer or the public defenders office find the cause of the warrant. Try to negotiate an appearance, so you don't have to spend time in the prison. Often, it you call the public defender they will , upon determining the offense you're wanted in regards to, schedule an appearance before the judge the next day, an initial appearance, and then they will let you go until the court date. (unless it's a violation, and then depending on the judge and your defense you could be spending time)
I've sat through many hours of court, and some people come in on their own, and sit in the back, and are given the services of a public defender. The judge just calls outto the public defender, "are you willing to take this, they usually say what about?" and then yes, and it is either scheduled for a hearing, or the person is remanded if it is really serious, although the judge will often ask if they can be placed in treatment, first, or scheduled for treatment when it becomes available. In a big city, it may be more complicated. Do something about it, and work toward getting it resolved.
You can get caught if they come looking for you, which the sheriffs may do, or if you get stopped speeding, and they run your identifiation, then you will definitely be held until a hearing and a lawyer is appointed, and you may be held even longer. Get it settled up.

Having a "warrant out for your arrest" means that there is a court order to arrest you for an allegation made against you.

The police may not immediately come to your house to arrest you unless it's an extremely serious offense. However, often times when people know you're wanted, they call to let authorities know your whereabouts.

My best advise would be to either contact an attorney or, as a minimum, determine what the warrant is for and attempt to settle the problem or arrange for you bond so that you don't spend a long time in jail after you're arrested.

Best wishes.

In Canada, a warrant is issued to the police when they have been provided with evidence sufficient to take you to trial for an offence. The police have to apply for a warrant through a judge and prove to the judge that they have enough evidence for the arrent. If the judge agrees, a warrant is issued. Warrants can also be issued to the police to search for more evidence if they dont have enough evidence for the arrest. They catch you by running credit, car, licence and health care searches to see where you've been. They also ask your family and friends where you are. Most people will rat you out if they think that they will get in trouble for with holding the information.

Police will as many times as possible try to come to your address to arrest you. If you by chance get stopped by police then they should run a check on you on the computer and if you are wanted on warrant this will flag up so you will be nicked there and then.
