Do you prefer to buy items with minimal packaging from environmentally aware companies? Or is it something you've never given much thought to?

Yes, and it is something I think about, because I can almost literally put my money where my mouth is by doing so. The more often consumers go for the least environmentally damaging product, the more companies will start to find those products attractive to supply to consumers and the less environmental damage their production and/or supply will incur. Apathy is sooo 90s.

I buy what I can afford, that is it. If it is packaged in an environmentally friendly way, great. If not, great. A lot of this packaging adds a price premium to the product.

There are many millions of us in the lower two quitiles of the income scale that do not have the money to worry about buying environmentally friendly products, since we mostly need to worry about stretching our money from paycheck to paycheck. As people move up the quintiles, they begin to accumulate the discretionary income that allows them to buy environment friendly products.

as a child trying to open a simple barbie box i knew there was too much waste put into the packaging. you got the outer pink box. you got the flat piece of cardboard she is sitting in. the plastic ties to keep her in place, the tape for extra security. little plastic bags for her personal items. And if this toy is presented as a gift think of all the wrapping paper, tape, and ribbons that goes over everything.

I don't really care that much. I just want the best product for the lowest price, and if that comes with a bunch of extra packaging, I don't really care.
