The woman I bought my dog from said that she doesn't like to take baths and said there is some type of foam that we can use that doesn't require as much water as shampoo. Does anyone know about this?

This is a wonderful question. Our chihuahua isn't crazy about bathes either. There are many options that you can use instead of soap and water. We use powdered shampoo for Bruiser. All you do is brush it through the fur, and it smells fresh. I know that Petsmart has tons of alternatives. Here I will attach a link, this is a wonderful place to begin looking!

They do have foaming bath wash for your dog that doesn't require water. Try using positive things with the bath. Work into it with treats over a few week period. Bring him to the bathroom and give treats everytime he's there. Do not even pay attention to the bath thing. Next, open the shower door or sit on the edge of the tub and give treats. After that get the dog into the tub and give treats. No bath until he's comfortable in the tub with nothing else going on. Just keep working your way up this way and pretty soon the dog will think bath/treat and he will at least tolerate the bath.

Well, I don't know about a foam, but I have in front of me three products that I used for cleaning my three Danes through the winter.

One is a powder called 8in1 Perfect Coat Dry Powder Shampoo. Then there are two that are like baby wipes: One is Simple Solution Pre-Moistened Dog Bathing Cloths and the other is 8in1 Perfect Coat Bath Wipes.

They all worked great when it was too cold to turn on the hose outside to bathe my dogs. (And believe me, between October, when they get their last outside bath, and April, when the water outside is no longer ice cold in Texas, three Great Danes can really pile on the dirt and smells if they don't get cleaned somehow.) I found all three at PetSmart.

I don't know about that, but I do know that for 13yrs I've owned a dog that is scared of bathes. The only way she ever felt the slight bit comfortable, was if I was in the tub with her, and she could lean against me (of course, swimsuit was required, since I was bound to get wet & have shampoo all over me.)

It also took around 2hrs to coax her into the bathroom on her own will, or it would take a couple snaps and yelps, when I pick her up, to take her in the bathroom.

But once she was in, she was well behaved. She knew the bath felt good, and she would feel better afterwards.

My dog doesn't like water- let alone a bath. My husband gives her a montly bath in the tub with lots of TLC. If it wasn't for him- my dog would get her baths at Petsmart. They have great people who are trained to be gentle and thourough PLUS it's SOOO worth the money. I have done this several times when my hubby is out of town. As others have said- the wipes are really nice too. You can get those at the supermart.
Good luck!!

There is nothing like a good bath for your dog. I have three and one used to hate baths due to abuse from previous ones. Now he will allow me to bath him because I sing to him and talk gently to him. This has taken time. My other two dogs I give them a shower with me at least twice a week.
If you choose to use a foam, etc. your carpet furniture etc. is going to smell , I mean Smell along with your dog.

Clean wipes, Special raised dog baths, or else you just have to bathe 'em. [It's hard to do for my dog, he doesn't like baths either.] Just use lukewarm water, and praise them the whole way thru. Careful not to really wash the front of the face

What Tammy said. Also...

Once my family was given a very old dog, and her previous owners said she didn't like baths. I never could figure out what they were talking about: She loved it when I bathed her in that warm water, and petted and lathered her. The poor little thing had arthritis badly. We think that what happened was that the previous owners didn't love her, and she knew it.

There are bath whipes, but the best way to get your dog clean is a bath.

I think there is a kind of powder that is sold in the pet store that helps to rub off the dirt on the dog's fur.
