Because they still view you as a little child. My mom said that to me several times and it turns out she was right. I did love the person very deeply but I was not in love like I had thought. Basically you have to learn the difference between the two before you actually know what being in love feels like. No doubt you know how to love but until you experience other relationships, you may not actually know if you are in love or you just REALLY care for the person. Making that mistake young can be devistating. I say explore and then settle down.

Teenagers can be in-love, that's the problem. You are sooo in love because it's new. A whole new emotion and partnership to explore. How can this not be love, everyone else is crazy, this is the best feeling ever! Of course it is because you never had it. Look at this way, Apple Juice is sooo good to a child who has only ever had water, but for someone older who has not only had apple juice but had grape juice, lemonade etc. - apple juice is okay. Teenagers know what love is, they just don't know how to control it with-in themselves, because it is such a big complicated feeling. How can a woman love a drunk that beats her or why? That's what scares parents, love will over-power you. Bad ideas seem like good ideas with no thought to consequences, because your possessed by this feeling. But just so you know, young love rarely RARELY work out, so (if this applies) don't endanger a good relationship with your parents over a temporary relationship with someone you feel you love.

Parents aren't doing it to be mean, they just want to protect you. Remember, they were kids once too! I'm 25 and I can say that I'v been there and I thought so many times I was in love but it all turned out all wrong. I learned from my mistakes and you will too.
Its all a part of growing up.

because they have been through it, "fallen in love" many times to only realize at the end it wasnt true love. I am only 22 and have been in love (desperately in love) about 4 times just to find out I was just really horny for the guy!

Because we adults have been there and done that and don't want our kids to have to go through the same pain that we've experienced. Listen to your folks. They really do know what they are talking about.

They just don't understand that you can fall in love at any age. They think you'll just make dumb choices or grow up too fast.

cause they dont want you making any dumb choices like sex, since teenagers who think they are in love tend to have sex and screw up their lifes.
