Male Permanent Residents between the ages of 18 and 26 are signed up to selective service when filing the I-485 for adjustment of status or when completing the DS-230 for an immigrant visa, so yes, why the hell not. Though to tell you the truth I think that it is a load of crap. Not good enough to vote yet, but if asked to die for the country its a must do. That makes no sense at all.

Yes. The French Foreign Legion worked well. After the French defeat in Algeria, they faded away somewhat, but in their better years they were a formidable fighting force, real badass fighters. When they completed their term of service, the Legionnaire was offered the option to get a French passport and citizenship, and even to take a new name if he wanted to start a new life.

America could use some new volunteers just now, to help make up for the absence of all the family members of the Bush clan and their chickenhawk neo-con supporters.

Non-citizens have been serving in the US Military for quite some time now...since the beginning. Irish Immigrants served in both Armies during the Civil War. Americans served in the RAF in the early days of WWII, and the French Foreign Legion takes almost all comers.
I served with many non-Americans during my 20 years in the Navy, and some of them were better men than some of the Americans were.
So, my answer is, why not?!

Non -citizens do serve in the Armed Forces. We have not been granting citizenship to illegal Mexicans and shipping them off to Iraq.

There have been a few human interest stories in the news when particularly heroic non-citizens have had their applications expedited.

The whole point to the US Armed Forces are for those you actually are a US citzen to fight and defend our country. Those who do not want to become a part of the US citzen should not be allowed to serve in the US Armed Forces. If they love this country so much than they should become a citzen and fight for the country that way.

I say why not, we already have 12 million illegals here, let's put their heart to the test and see if they would lay their life down for FREEDOM. I say if they want to go to serve, live and die next to American soldiers to preserve the American way of life, let them do it.

But if the Border Patrol rounded up those 12 million illegals, how many do you think would actually go fight for the U.S.? If they really wanted what we have, those 12 million would go home, take up arms and rise up against their corrupt and oppressive country. I don't think Mexico's shabby Army could handle an uprising like that.....heck..they would probably cut and run.....

Yes, they should be allowed to serve in our military, and they are serving in our military. Occasionally a foreigner will betray the US military, as famously happened when a foreign Muslim left our military and told secrets to Al Qaeda.

If they are willing to fight and possibly die for the US, then they should be rewarded with citizenship. Unfortunately, most of the illegal aliens in this country don't speak or read English, so they would be useless in our military.

Personally I believe they shouldn't eventhough we have many Salvadorians fighting side by side with American soldiers in Iraq, I dont believe is right, because wars usually bring innocent blood to be shed and @ the same time the Majority of Americans aren't appreciative for their labor. They are out here talking trash about illegals, which many whom are from Salvadorians decent. So No I dont Agree for a non citizen of this country to be Allowed to serve in the U.S Armed Forces. As part of El Salvadorian president Antonio Saca's decision to join the United States-led "coalition of the willing," he has sent a force of 380 soldiers to fight in Iraq. Nearly 10 percent of them hail from the rural towns of Tacuba and Guaymango in the Ahuachapan province --west of the capital, San Salvador, and almost impossible to locate on the map without a microscope.

Even though Saddam Hussein never posed a threat to Central America, and the national security of the U.S. is a concern only to those Salvadorians lucky enough to survive the harrowing migratory journey to "El Norte," some 35 local boys have fought side-by-side with the American armed forces near Najaf, north of Baghdad.

The war in Iraq has given them a chance to see the outside world and people far from the dusty streets of their home villages. Many have returned with the spoils of war from the deserts of the Middle East, along with eye-popping stories.

Only one, Natividad de Jesús Méndez Ramos, didn't make it home. "Tivito" died on April 4, 2004 in Najaf when his 16-member squad ran out of ammunition while fighting Iraqi insurgents, and were forced to wield knives. His body now rests in an elaborate gravesite in the cemetery outside of Guaymango, which was given by the Salvadorian military. Tivito's mother, Herminia, received condolences from her government, but today she struggles to continue forward.
