The fact that most people in this country are one paycheck away from being homeless is the leading cause of homelessness. It is recommended that everyone have 3 months worth of savings in their accounts. Most people can barely make all their payments before the next paycheck and have no savings. People took on house payments they can not afford and now there seems to be rampant foreclosures. Some people become sick and can no longer work. Some people lose a spouse, partner or parent and can not make it financially.

It starts off with someone living paycheck to paycheck because they barely have enough money to survive and pay their bills. This is either because they don't have a good employment history or because they are not living within their means (running up credit cards, for example). Then something happens, like they get sick or lose their job. Next thing you know, they start selling everything they have to try and make ends meet, then they're evicted or foreclosed and that's the end of hope for them. How do you start back from nothing? Especially when they have kids, they feel like a failure and just give up trying and start drinking or using drugs with the money they get from begging in the streets to numb the pain. Guiding them towards a better life may start with them talking to someone who's been through it and is now back on their feet. They need to learn how to hope again. It's not easy but they have to want it! You can't help someone if they won't help themselves. If you just hand everything to them, it will make things worse.

This hard to explain but I try.
Many just get tired of life and decide to look for a more rewarding experience by trying to go outside the box of society. Well, they may live in a box, but, are happy and stress free. I have actually looked at this concept. I see many are lead by the material world and of course this leads to work. We fall into a systematic order of life. Now, I not say I would be homeless, but, have looked at living in the forest or on a boat. Some have even ask about this on here. Just a way to get back to a more simple way of life. So, I doubt many homeless want your help. There are those that in time do return to the conformity of society and do this through Federal and State resources to retrain and get a job.

Sadly some people just have a job that only pays like 7 dollars an hour and they became to grow in debt. And many homeless shelters are already filled so perhaps theres an organization that collects money to buiold homeless shelters. That would help alot having a roof overyour head

First, tell them not to have children until they have their lives fixed. Most people in poverty come from parents who live/lived in poverty.

The largest predictor of a person becoming homeless seems to be his/her upbringing. Education helps, but it can only do so much when a child has to return to a negative, neglectful, or abusive environment.
