In places where food is scarce or only afforded by the wealthy, being obese is a good thing. It means she has money and resources. In the Western world it's quite the opposite. Everyone can get at least one meal a day without any problems, but it's the wealthy woman who is thin. Why? She has the time and resources to take care of herself in our fast paced high resource culture. What do I think of the obese bride? It's just another bride.

She's a bride. That's what I think. I think every bride is beautiful no matter what size they are. The problem that I find is that celebrities are too busy setting the so-called standard on what a woman should look like or how she should look. Woman are dying all over the world because they binge and purge and cause their bodies to breakdown for the perfect body.

I believe that an obese bride should be able to wear the gown of her choice (not like some of the comments I read on here so far). I was a plus sized bride and wore an empire waist gown because that is what I liked and it flattered me -- as I gave full reign to my bridal party who are also on the plus side to choose a gown in the color I wanted, which would suit them.

Ignorant people notice sizes and comment on them.

Well it maybe acceptable in Ugandan culture, but it's not acceptable in other parts of the world for health and vanity purposes. Many brides don't want to look chunky on their wedding day why do you think many brides have exercise regimens months before their wedding so they can look nice in their dress. If a woman is happy with her size who cares as long as she's healthy and feel comfortable in her own skin.

Not just in Uganda, but in many places throughout the world in many cultures. Yes, we are truly wonderful and make beautiful brides!

In USA, skinniness is more valued than heftiness. It has little to do with prosperity however, as USA is the only country where the poor people are fat.

An obese bride? All shapes and sizes of people get married, it just is not an issue for me.

It's only seen as a sign of worthiness in countries where food is sparse and it means that a large woman is well-fed.

Here, it's all the same. Large women, small women, all worthy!

I could see that there as that's a sign of prosperity--they can afford to eat, but in countries where this isn't an issue, it doesn't say very much. I'm overweight, so I am really glad my fiance doesn't mind!
