The false prophet is the one who insures that everyone will worship the beast. He will be the religious leader of the world. (Revelation 13:8 and 12) He will perform "miracles" which will deceive many people. (Revelation 16:13-14 and 19:20)
Ultimately, he will be doomed for the wickedness he performed. (Revelation 19:20)
Hope that helps!

Isa 9:15 The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.
Those who teach lies are false prophets. Eze13, Jer28.
Rev 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
This is talking about Satan' s one world government political system (Rev 13:1-3). And those false prophets who teach lies. In the millennium, Satan when he's released at the end (Rev 20:7) to test the people again. He no longer have his gov/political system.

Revelation 13:11-18 talks about the false prophet. It says he speaks like a dragon. I would take that to be he would be a very persuasive orator. He carries out the orders of the Anti-Christ and leads the people to worship the Anti-Christ. The false prophet can perform miracles. He kills those who refuse to worship the Anti-Christ and he forces people to take the mark of the beast.

You have to look at the Apocalypse with very careful eyes: its meaning is far from being easy to ascertain. Still, many sects and religious groups consider it the way the end of the world will happen.
The reality is the Apocalypse (or book of revelation) was written in the isle of Patmos (present Greece) at a time when John the Evangelist was already dead. Its inclusion in the Bible was very much debated, and it was only because Emperor Justinian pushed for it that you see it these days in the Bible.
Still, and most importantly, the Church does not include in its beliefs. What this means is Christians do not have to believe in what it says to be Christians.
The book is written at a time when Christians were suffering prosecution by romans. It is generally accepted (using the numerical Kabbalah's interpretation of number 656, which was the number in the original book) that the beast is probably Caligula or Nero (if you use 666). The overall message the book gives is of hope for Christians: it is Rome what will perish, with all its emperors and false prophets.
Any other meaning is... Well, you know what I mean.

He is the equivalent to the Holy Spirit in the evil:
YWVH-Satan (the leader)
Jesus Christ- Anti Christ ( the intercessor)
Holy Spirit/Ghost- False Prophet (the guide)
The false prophet will help the Antichrist by drawing the people into him, he will have to be religious since to deceive someone who believes in christ it there has to be a religious factor. Thus all points out that the last Pope will be the false prophet because he would have the highest authority.
-Sorry for the least information given.

Felipelotas 1 is wrong on this: the Revelation to john was written by John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, on Patmos around AD 96. By this time Nero was dead, (died AD 68) and he was preceded by Caligula (died AD 41), so John most definitely was not referring to either of these men. Other things too point to this vision as referring to the end of time:
for example, God's Two Witnesses in Jerusalem, who shall oppose Anti-Christ for the first 3 1/2 years of his reign, who are then killed by Anti-Christ, and their bodies are left in the streets for three and a half days, when the people on the earth celebrate, due to the judgements they had called down on the earth. But after the three and a half days they are raised again, in full view of people around the world. None of this has happened yet, and when it happens, everyone on earth will be able to see their bodies, and Anti-Christ's supposed victory over them (see Revelation chapter 11). This couldn't have happened before the 20th Century, as it was impossible for people to see events on the other side of a border, never mind the other side of the world. Now however, in world of CNN, Sky News and BBC News 24, the previously impossible is now humdrum.
But the good news is, believers in Christ before the Anti-Christ's rise shall never experience this outpouring of the the bowls of God's wrath, and we have the words of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself as our guarantee:
"Watch therefore, and pray always, that ye may be counted worthy to ESCAPE all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man [i.e. Jesus]." (Lke. 21:36).
"Because thou hast kept the word of My patience, I also will keep thee FROM the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth." (Rev. 3:10).
This is the Rapture, AKA "the Blessed Hope", that we shall not suffer God's wrath ("We are not appointed to [any of God's] wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thess. 5:9)).
Others here have pointed out the role of of the false prophet, and I say here now that God's two Witnesses in Jerusalem shall be a warning that most alive at that time (beginning in five seconds? five minutes? five centuries? I don't know), but those who ignore their warnings and heed the false prophet will not fare any better or worse than anyone else who turns their back on Christ.
Accept Jesus now, and KNOW you are saved to the uttermost!

In Islam we have a creature who comes later on in life who claims himself to be a God. He actually exhists now somewhere in the world but he is chained in a certain way. He cannot free himself yet, he will only free himself when the true believers are almost gone. It will be a time of famine, drought and poverty. He will appear then and claim to be God, he will have great powers and will be able to decieve people by showing them miracles. Everyone will follow this creature EXCEPT the true believers. Then Jesus (Eissa) will be sent back to Earth to rid the people of this decieving being and do more.... thats not the end of it, but this is the most relating story that I could think of.. There is more to it ofcourse. Look up.. The return of Jesus in Islam...and the Anti-christ in Islam.

Where do people get these ideas from? The false prophet is with Elvis and Robin Hood, having a pint or two and a good laugh.

The Bible doesn't say that much about him really, off the top of my head I remember he will be able to perform miracles.
