In response to prev. comment...defending from whom?
I am not glad that any of our soldiers have to go into another country and fight and kill other humans for any reason. I am not glad that citizens of the US are dying in Iraq every day. I am not glad that we are forcing them to fight in a war that was not necesary.

They don't give medals for winning a court case. Unfortunately they will crucify the marine in the media and in the military. I doubt Bush knew about this before the news today, and he probably won't care.
I question why the young man chose to join the marines if he held these beliefs particularly if he is a buddhist like the news report indicated.
Look he joined up and he found that it wasn't for him because he didn't want to be part of a culture where combat and killing are revered.
I think he is missing the point of those indoc programs, most people are going to be horrified, so they are trying to introduce some of the most horrifying things that humans can experience in a way that is going to be easy for the recruits to process and feel enthusiasim for.
That is just the way combat training has to be, the recruit has to believe that what he is learning is important (remember these recruits are just kids) so your average recruit is far more likley to pay attention to his LIFE SAVING training if he thinks it's cool... Most kids join the marines to blow **** up anyway.
So, in a way this young man displayed many traits that the Marines instill and honor - he stuck to his convictions and in this case that means that he got out before he did somthing that he may have not been able to live with himself for doing.

Yes, this little boy should be soo proud of himself. He was all grown up and enlisted in the Marines and then decided he didn't want to do the job that was made clear to him before he signed the contract. He is just a spoiled child and should be put in prison to pound rocks along with all the other cowards who joined for the "education benefits."
What those who have never served don't seem to realize is that there is a clause in the contract that little boy signed that stated he WAS NOT a consciencious objector. He swore an oath attesting to that fact when he enlisted. He should be fined the 10,000 dollars and serve a sentence of up to 10 years for committing fraud.
If President Bush is po'ed about anything it should be the fed. judge who is again legislating from the bench. The military is the jurisdiction for these cases, not the federal courts.

He probably doesn't care, because if he did, he would have arrested the judge for treason. Now anybody can get out of the military, even during a draft just because of a sympathetic judge.

Personally I am glad that somebody who puts his political opinions ahead of his sworn duty to the Constitution is gone.
All you you people cheering him - would you cheer if the people in the military decided that you were not worth defending?
