Take him to the vet ASAP!.A dog of mine was hit by a car (he kind of went under the car instead of a full impact or run-over in which case he would have died) many years ago and had his hind leg injured just like yours..we took him to the vet and they gave him a neat little cast on it.I also had to apply wound oil to the cut as we still have the screwworm in Jamaica(less now).
If your country has screw-worm then dont forget this.
I doubt if he will need to be put down as some people above are saying.

take him to the vet, there may be more damage that will cause him to lose mobility or worse die. You can be fined or arrested if you deny your pet medical care if someone turns you in for neglect. the fines can go beyond $500 even past $1000.
Would you just sit at home if you got hit by a car and cant walk on it? Or if a family members kids you were watching or your own child?
So dont sit around take him to a vet, if you cant then learn to save money up for days like this and give your dog up to a humane shelter and stop lettign him suffer

You have to get him to the vet to find out what is going on. They will be able to tell you from their on what to do. If you do not get treatment for your dog if it is broken it will not heal right and get worse. Just remember what would you do if you were hit by a car? Would you just put ice or heat on it or would you go to the hospital?

If your dog was just hit by a car, he may not only have a broken leg, but internal injuries. There is nothing you can do for him yourself. Your dog is most likely in alot of pain, and the only thing you can do for him, is to take him to the veterinarian right away, and have him examined and treated. The veterinarian is the only one who can help him. Please don't let the poor thing suffer any more than it already has. You need to take him now. Poor Baby!

Do not touch the leg directly...you could displace the bone if it is broken. Keep the dog warm (put a light blanket over it) and as still as possible. CALL THE VET IMMEDIATELY!! Do not panic, reassure your dog by talking softly to him/her. Do not give him/her food or water as this will delay any operations he may need. Good luck

hello? the vet!! What would you do if you got hit by a car and thought you broke your leg? wouldn't you go to the doctor? NO heat...heat causes swelling...Ice reduces swelling...but only until you get him to the vet!!!

You need to take it to the vet immediately. Dogs do not show pain like people. He could be in shock right now. Better to find out now whether its just a bruise before finding out your dog slowly died from internal bleeding in his abdomen.

Take him to a vet. One of my friends threw his cat (he's an idiot) into a wall and dislocated it's hip... he let it heal on it's own but it healed wrong and an infection started. It's either you pay money or your pet suffers for life... I would prefer to spend the money. I would much rather be broke to save my pet then let my pet suffer. Much like having a child.
