My son was also wanting his ear pierced. I got him a magnet earring from the mall. That seemed to curb the desire. He doesn't wear it all anymore. (Since it is a magnet it LOOKS real and the big plus no hole in the ear)

It depends on his school. At the (very nice) school where I teach, most of the boys have one (left) or two (newest trend) holes with diamond studs. These kids range from honors to spec ed, all income levels and religions. They are really into earrings there.

At my son's middle school, the boys are not into earrings at all!!

The earring (and other piercings, tattoos, etc.) represent the natural separation from the parental identity to the formation of their own identity (even if it is part of the school's trend). It is a less difficult stand to take than getting a ta too, which most kids regret later. Some kids make their statement in the form of long hair, or the type of music they listen to, or a combination.

I'd say yes to it so the child can feel independent without feeling like rebelling too much (e.g., GOTHs).

I have 4 boys the oldest now 13 had his ear pierced when he was 11. I see nothing wrong with it. Its not like a tatoo that can't be removed easy. If he decides later he doesn't want it, he just removes the earing.
It can create a problem, if he was to ever be in a fight. This now days would be my only concern.
Even Howie Mandel from deal or no deal wears one.

why not? we pierce girls ears when they are babies so why not if he wants it done? it isn't something major that will change his life forever like a tatoo, that i would wait alittle longer for but a earring can easily be removed! yes, the hole is still there but who's gonna see it unless he has an earring in should he change his mind when he is older! not real sure but i believe that it is the left ear for boys! course now a days the newest cool look is both! lots of luck hope it helps ya!

My boys had their left ear pierced last year. Mind you they outgrew the fad when their stepbrother stopped visiting so much (teen+girls=little time for family). I don't exactly know the etiquette anymore for which ear for boys, I know when I was growing up if the guy had it in the right ear he was either homosexual or bisexual but now a days it seems like people in general have them everywhere.

My sons are 9 and 10 and have an ear pierced. It just depends on how you feel about it and wether or not he's mature enough to take care of it and not let it become a distraction.

Nothing wrong with it at all. Most men, if they get just one ear done, will do the left ear.
Make sure he keeps it clean.
