I've been told that the reason atheists are constantly telling us about leprachauns, the tooth fairy, and pink and purple unicorns is to point out to us how silly they think belief in God is.
From an atheist's pov, belief in God may be like belief in children's fairy tales, and I can accept that. If you happen to be an atheist, that's fine.
But when you use these examples to try to show believers that they are silly, you only wind up making us think you've lost YOUR marbles.
Maybe believers ought to have a round of drinks every time we hear this old argument used in R&S...hey, I'll by the first round, what do you say, people of faith??
LOL, but as often as we hear it, maybe we ought to just stick to plain soda, or we'll be stumbling outta here before lunchtime!!

Not all Christians are tetotallers, some of us do drink, hopefully in moderation. Drinking games are not new, nor did they originate with atheist's who are tired of hearing variations of Pascal's Wager...btw, that one's getting old, too.
LOL, hello, Alex, I see you are your usual cheerful self this morning! PMS much?

I ought to point out that I don't find pink unicorns offensive. Nor do I get offended when an atheist tries to compare my belief in God to my grand daughter's belief in Santa Claus. I just smile, and remember that God loves children.

Ah angeltress...good try, but to those who are blinded to the things of God, using fairytales as a comparison to the Father is the best logic you can hope for from them. If pink unicorns , leprechauns & the tooth fairy make for a compelling argument in their minds--how can you hope to have a reasonable discussion? No logic there. No wisdom.
In 1 Cor. 1:18 it says, "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, 'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.'"
They seek signs & follow their own 'wisdom'. I don't know why we think we should be able to help them see truth when they refuse the truth from God Himself.
"Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men."--1 Cor. 1-25
If God appeared to them in person, they still wouldn't believe. That is their loss.

I'll have a sasperilla on the rocks, no ice.
Seriously though, it all boils down to the exact same arguments in the end with no resolution. It just has different people who haven't heard all the arguments.
At the end of all things, it will be:
1. Too late for them to accept Christ, and it will be the Christian's fault for not showing them Christ's love enough to cause them to see God.
or
2. The Atheists will be pointing their fingers at us and laughing as we all slip out into the void of nothing and everything into an eternal oblivion of lifelessness.
Pascal's wager...
Is spending your life for God and being wrong worse than hell? For some people, the answer is yes. I can't honestly answer that question. I don't know how I'd feel if I were an atheist. I'd probably want to live every minute to please myself. It would only make sense.

Paul S is right. Refusing to accept reality makes you look silly. It doesn't really matter if you think, from your warped point of view, that we've lost our marbles for pointing this out to you.
What kind of argument is that, anyway? "Showing us how irrational we are only makes us think you're irrational". That you'd even suggest that makes me realize just how far gone you are. And how poor your reasoning skills are. It's like those childish people who use the argument "If you disagree with me, you're only proving my point". In their little mind maybe, but in reality they've just shown how wrong their entire stance is. And the same applies to you.
EDIT : You're very hostile towards atheists, aren't you? Especially ones that will take a stand and speak up against your foolishness. It's interesting to me how you lash out when you must surely see how you've cornered yourself with your own lack of logic.
Trying to deflate my comments by using buzzwords like "PMS much" instead of actually dealing with what I've said is childish to say the least. If that's all you've got, I can see that you know you've already lost.
It doesn't matter that you're tired of seeing the argument. You've never actually listened to it in the first place. It's an accurate comparison. In what way are the fairy tales we mention different than yours? You never did bother explaining that. You just threw a hissy fit when presented with his ugly fact. As another poster said, you've glossed over it. You may as well have your fingers in your ears shouting "la la la la la" so you don't have to hear anything that would make your own serious doubts about your faith come to light.
Good luck with all that. It seems you need it.

I have not lost my marbles. I have a high IQ and a college degree. Belief in gods really IS like belief in tooth fairies, Santa Claus, ghosts, dragons, Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, UFO's, etc., because there is no convincing evidence to true logicians and scientists that any of them exist. The ones who lost their marbles are the ones who try to do silly things to support their groundless beliefs. You do not give any reason for rejecting such an analogy. You are just whistling in the dark. Some people are scared by truth. My oldest sister is such a person. She becomes quite angry when I say anything to make her doubt her dubious beliefs. She does have deep doubts obviously, and you do as well. You and she are over-reacting and your words are controlled by base emotions, not logic.

The problem here is that there does not appear to be any difference between one creature that no one has any proof of (God) and any other creature that no one has any proof of(invisible pink unicorns, leprechauns, etc.) If there were, perhaps pointing out the similarities would not make sense.
I think it's time you actually listened to these arguments, instead of glossing over them, like people of faith tend to do with every very clear and compelling argument against their faith.
It's a common argument for a reason - it's a sound comparison.

I don't think that a believer is silly because he believes in what he believes.
But many believers try to persuade atheists with silly arguments (like pascals wager or "how can you be sure"). And I think these believers are silly.

man created god in his own image... again, and again, and again. it is rude, however, to mock those who believe in an invisible omnipotent entity. it serves no positive purpose. a better example of the difference between us would be: you're holding a vase that appears empty, but you believe it contains much. i'm holding a vase that i know is empty. an onlooker sees two persons, each holding a beautiful vase. rather than going for a drink perhaps you should invite an atheist to have a cup of tea with you. invite your god, as well. when the atheist voices skepticism that your god is with you, just prove it. note: i strongly support organised religions and their participants' right to personal faith.

The problem with that argument is that it's false. You can drink all you want, and you can refuse to accept the truth, but in fact you're still silly. I can't imagine that drinking is going to make you less silly, as a matter of fact.

Drink whatever you want, really. Maybe after a few drinks you can explain why Zeus would be more silly than your God. Or purple unicorns for that matter.
