Satan was originally a good angel, created by god. He was not created evil, or as an evil force in the universe (as if we needed one!) contrary to what some believe.

The reason behind why he is now called 'Satan' is because he misused the free will that he was given and decided that he knew better than god and wanted people to worship him instead.

The name 'Satan' literally means 'enemy' or 'opposer' and so this is the name that he came to have after he rebelled against god.

The bible shows that he coerced the first human pair into rebelling against god, and therefore raised the issue as to whether it was better for god's intelligent creatures to be independant of him or not. This has led to the world conditions which we see today.

However, the bible also shows that the time that Satan has been allowed is nearly up, and very soon god will remove him and the wicked elements of human society.

Satan was once an angel. While he was in heaven, he got so full of himself that he thought he might as well be equal to God. (which is impossible, because no one can be perfect like God) So, he was kicked out of heaven and actually took a third of all of the angels from heaven with him. They are called "fallen angels" and are now what we call demons.
Now, Satan and God are enemies, Satan is trying to stop people as much as possible from believing and trusting in God and God's son Christ. But, God will beat the devil one day, it says so in the Bible, so basically Satan has already been defeated!

Satan was a arch angel of position and authority. When God created him he was perfect in wisdom and beauty the bible says. There was no sin in him at all. However, Satan desired to be like God and he let those thoughts overtake him to the point of trying to take heaven. He of course was kicked out because he and his followers were too weak. There is no fellowship or mutual friendship with God and the devil. The devil is considered and enemy to God and he desires the destroy that which God loves the most mankind.

Well, Everyone told you what the Christians believe so I will go ahead and tell you what the Muslims believe...
God created Satan out of fire and he was in Heaven with God and the other Angels, when God created Adam he told Satan and all the other Angels to bow down to his creation...Satan thought he was better than Adam and rebelled so God sent him out of Heaven...

Satan was an angel in Heaven called Lucifer. He was the most beautiful angel in all of heaven, and he was the Cheribum whose wings overshadowed the Almighty God... the most respected position in heaven next to God's.

Lucifer then became pridefull of his position and beauty, and decided to overthrow God and take His position, he was then kicked out of heaven. He and God are now total enemies.

God is...well...God. He created the angels. Lucifer was one of the greatest angels. The problem was, he wanted to be God himself, not just an angel. He rebelled and God kicked him out of heaven. God doesn't have any brothers or sisters. So you're closer with your second choice.

Satan was one of Jehovah's angels and he became jealous and he wanted the glory that only Jehovah could posses. Basically Satan was one of Jehovah's most powerful angels (but not nearly as powerful as Jehovah) that rebelled against him
