Here's a recipe I just found for a yogurt smoothie. It says any soft fruit can be used in place of the banana. All I have on hand is some canteloupe and a few apples. I know the apples won't work in this recipe cuz they're too hard, but has anyone ever used canteloupe in a smoothie? Would canteloupe be good in this recipe? Here's the recipe:
There are almost unlimited possibilities for maple smoothies. The author has used bananas here, but soft berries in season are also terrific; any soft fruit will work. Let your imagination guide you, bearing in mind the proportions of yogurt to maple and fruit.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup plain yogurt
½ cup milk
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
1 ripe banana, peeled
Pinch of cinnamon
Several ice cubes, crushed

1. Combine the yogurt, milk, maple syrup, banana, and cinnamon in a blender.

2. Add the crushed ice and process until smooth. It's fine of shards of ice remain after the blending. Serve at once.

I think cantaloupe would work great. I make smoothies all the time, but i don't like adding ice because of the shards of ice that don't blend. Instead I peel, cut, and then freeze my fruit on a cookie sheet. When the chunks are frozen I place them in a ziplock bag so I can always take out the portion I need. They make your smoothies thick and cold.
I've never tried melon though...sounds terrific!

You can give it a try, though I'm not sure how the maple flavor will blend with cantaloupe. The apples might work if you peel and quarter them and micro them till soft, then cool before adding to the mix. Apple and maple would taste good together. The apples will have more liquid than the banana and so will the cantaloupe, that's why the recipe calls for banana, it gives it body and thickness. I think I would stick with banana, go shopping first and try it out.

Good luck!

I don't know about cantelope and cinnamon. But what have you got to loose. Try it!
