Fine. So churches who have kept this *one* prohibition (while throwing out multiple fabric clothing prohibitions and a raft of others) should not marry gay couples.

I have no problem with that.

But don't tell the state that IT cannot marry gay couples. And don't tell ME, as a Priestess licenced by the State, that I cannot officiate at a gay marriage.

I support the right of religious institutions to decide for themselves in matter like this.

Heck, if a very conservative religious body refuses to marry a straight couple because they aren't of the same religion, I support that , too.

But YOUR religious laws about marriage have no effect on ME, as a member of a different religion. And any attempts to MAKE your religious laws the laws of the land will be fought tooth and nail.

In a practical way, a legal partnership, ( I don't like the term gay marriage) is a good solution to the problem of allowing long term same sex couples full protection under law. It allows inheritance, tax rules, joint ownership of property etc. so why not? The Bible does not mention anything about Modern electrical supplies or heart surgery, are we supposed to think that those are not allowed either?
If people would stop getting their nickers in a twist about interpretation of the Bible, we would hear a lot more common sense about gay issues.

Sweetie, there are lots of things not mentioned in the Bible - do you think we should not have progressed at all in the last few thousand years?.

A marriage is when two people make a public and spiritual vow to be together and celebrate their love to the exclusion of all others. In the secular world, it also grants certain legal rights and privileges. What is your problem with two gay people enjoying that privilege?

Isn't it time you grew up and started thinking for yourself?

two people who love each other want to marry, whats the problem? doesnt hurt anyone.. has nothing to do with anyone else.

and marriage allows us the same rights legally as a hetero couple, it isn't fair that we are more vunerable to legal loopholes and things just because we anre't "married" when that right is denied to us.

we are all people, why segregate and treat us differently? unless god wants us to sin further by denying us marriage, thus forcing to either live celebacy or to have sexual relations outside of marriage.

and for the record, no, gays aren't nymphomaniacs, we are normal people just like everyone else in the world, don't judge lest ye yourself be judged, stop the hate.

Well, in theory there is no such thing as 'gay-marriage.' However there is the opportunity of a civil partnership.
Either of them are merely a public act of showing commitment to each other andasking others to join in, in supposrt thereof and celebrating it.

It's not mentioned in the bible about alot of things in the world today, but as humans we adapt and evolve for the better. A gay marriage to me is just the same as a so called normal one if two people love each other i dont see a problem :)

there should be no religious gay marriages in the major religions because having homosexual relationships are taboo within them

that being said, there SHOULD be gay civil marriages because we are supposed to have a seperation between church and state and it is wrong to deny the civil rights to gay people

anyone that is trying to stop GAY CIVIL MARRIAGES are forcing their religious beliefs onto the nation

anyone that is trying to force GAY RELIGIOUS MARRIAGES to occur are forcing their civil beliefs onto religion

THIS is why it's important to have very clear and distinct seperations between church and state

those that oppose gay civil marriage have to remember that their religious definition of marriage is not allowed to dictate what a marriage really is

Christian's definition of a legal religious marriage is vastly different than the Jewish definition of a legal religious marriage

Christians have no right to tell Jews how to perform their religious ceremonies just like Jews have no right to tell Christians

but, civil marriages are just that, pertaining to certain civil rights

as an example......if a Jewish couple is married in a civil marriage only than in the eyes of Judaism they would not be considered married, but that doesn't mean that they aren't legally married in the eyes of the nation

so too with gay marriage.....if a gay couple is married in a civl marriage than in the eyes of religions they would not be considered married but in the eyes of the naiton they are

There's nothing wrong with it. People are people and should not be treated as anything less by anyone for any reason. The religious just can't see past the prejudices inherent in their religion to realize that treating people as less than a person is a bad thing.

Homosexuality is not permitted for Christians, any more than theft, murder and adultery are permitted for Christians. When someone becomes a Christian, theft, murder, adultery and homosexuality are thereafter regarded in the way that Christ views them, as harmful to self and society. Those who call themselves Christians but say that homosexuality is ok are not Christians. There are many more pseudo-Christians than true ones, so it is inevitable in these liberalised times that some pseudo-Christians will say that homosexuality is ok for Christians. Other pseudo-Christians oppose them in order to retain credibility.

I'm not gay and not a Christian so I could not care less what it says in the Bible. Did you know the Bible is only of interest to Christians.
