This is a popular scam that people try to pool from foreign countries in the attempt that you will send them money. Just recently, Chris Hansen (the how to catch a predator guy from Dateline) did a special on these con artists and their scams. Here is a small article on the show http://insidedateline.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/03/20/95321.aspx
And always remember with this scam or any like it, if you just won $400,000 or how much ever money, they 1. would have notified you by something more than email, and 2. they would probably just subtract whatever insurance or fees right from all the money you just "won".

Can u say scam.....if it sounds too good to be true....then it is. I'll bet it isn't even related to yahoo. Someone has sold your e-mail addy from something you signed up for. This type of thing happens all the time. Why would you need to insure a cheque, when the bank won't let it be cashed until it has cleared. Do you think the bank would take that risk. Not on your life. Email them back and tell them you are reporting them to the authorities, and have a nice day.

God Bless You

This is a scam.

But instead of wondering about it, contact Yahoo directly and ask them. But don't use the link provided by the email. Go directly to the Yahoo.com site.

no, dont take any action, it's definitely a spam. real lottery operator wont take money off you. for big sums like that, they are required to some som checks on an individual and would need to see you in person.
also, think about it, you cant win if you didnt play! there is no such thing as free lunch!
