Is it possible to change brain thought?? To the point where someone would be living in a 'make believe' world, as if in a dream, permanetly, with no awareness of whats really going on around them and of consequences of that life?

Yes, a process of neurolinguistic programming or neural feed-back can be used to program one's thoughts. One can get so detached with reality and live in a dream world of one's own that relationships suffer. Addiction to internet is another factor which affects relationships. These changing thoughts also have effect on the brains chemical make up.

Your question is a little vague. If you mean "Can a person's personality change so that they seem to be living in a make believe world?" the answer is yes. It's called schizophrenia. Such a condition could also be due to the chronic ingestion of a neurotoxic substance. Good luck with this.

It's possible to change thoughts and beliefs - an example would be the concept of 'brainwashing'. In terms of lack of awareness, some people believe that hypnosis could produce that state of mind.
