I was brought up in a half catholic (my mum) and half atheist (my dad) family. Now an adult I am purely atheist and since seeing american christians on television and seeing what a 'normal christian' is in america, it has really upset me that it is so cult like. can someone please respond to me and tell me why christians feel it ncessary to target weak people? I don't mean to cause an offence to anyone but I have actually been very offended by the way christianity is practiced.

I have experienced the judgementalism and the uncomfort one CAN feel at different churches. I visited churches to look for one I was comfortable in, both spiritually and with the congregation. I have not found one. And on the surface Christianity does look "cult like", especially if you are watching services on tv. When you are looking for a church, of any faith, you do not join because you like the people in the church. You will find some of the biggest hypocrites in church. But they are not the reason you go to church anyway, right? It makes it really hard to enjoy going to church when the people frown upon you. For whatever reason they choose. But you are going to hear the Word, and that is why you remain.

Christians, and every other faith, in their own ways, target everyone, not just weak people. And they are not weak. People need something to believe in, it gives them hope. And those that want that hope are usually inclined to believe almost anything. Jesus said that when He comes, He is not coming for those that follow God's law. He is coming for the non-believers. (When I say "coming for" I am not indicating any type of punnishment or demise for non-believers.) He has the job of showing the world THE truth. Believers already believe in Him, no matter what the truth is.

The goal of spirituality is to have your personal connection with (choose the name of your higher power) and to one day, be with (insert name here). Every Religion has a beginning, middle and end. Each has a higher power and a second in charge. They all have some type of rapture. So no matter what or whom you believe in, at the end of religion, we will all know THE truth, whatever that may be. "Seek and ye shall find"...don't let people's actions keep you from obtaining the truth you are looking for.

I have never heard of any Christians targeting weak people. In fact, that is the thing they are NOT supposed to do. So if anyone has done that they are not a Christian. Also I feel it is hard not to offense Christians when offending them like this. Did you know that 80% of the USA is christian? So it is hard not to offend more than half the country. I do not know why you would be offended by the way christianity is practiced. This question is obsurd and I don't know why I am even answering it. I was sent to be God's messenger and that is what I intend to do!

So am I and I am a Christian. Just because they are on TV does that make them correct. Even the unjust get promoted to highly visible positions to show more perversion and miss direct others or justify the wicked for not desiring the truth. If targeting the weak is helping the poor and the oppressed people then I would consider that a good thing. Jesus came to hang out with the sinners to reach them for He knew their need for salvation. Jesus fought against the hypocrisy of the church in his day. It still goes on today. This does not justify condemning the whole church for the mistakes of many. Wide is the road to hell and narrow is the path to heaven.

I don't think they do think they're targetting the weak. But, personally, its one of the reasons I'm so digusted with Christians. They DO target the weak as converts. People who are at their weakest moments in their lives.

Thats when Christianity jumps in with promises to save the day, and the person, being so weak (like dying from a terminal illness) clutches onto it out of fear and desperation.

I think its despicable.

For example....

My mother had left the Catholic church long before she got sick with cancer. She had left them after the divorce from her first husband. They didn't treat her and her family very well when she was growing up.

Then she got sick with cancer and they couldn't find a cure. All the chemo and everything and it just got worse.

Thats when the church jumped in. She started having Priests come to her at her house and in the hospital. She started talking about god all the time and tried to convince all of us to convert. Which she knew was never going to happen.

My mother was a truly wonderful woman. The strongest person I've ever met, and my best friend.

Yet, at this moment of the greatest weakness of her life, with promises to save her the church stepped up.

Guess what... she's dead. All the church succeeded in doing was making all of us miserable and preying on a weak dying woman.

Yes, I know some people will be offended by what I just said. But just because you don't like it, doesn't make it a lie.

Please do not confuse Christianity with christendom.
They are not the same!
Christendom is a counterfeit, hypocritical abomination.
It was predicted that the real Christianity would be infiltrated by imposters.
Acts 20:29-30 has Peter saying:
"...after my going away oppressive wolves will enter in among YOU and will not treat the flock with tenderness, and from among YOU yourselves men will rise and speak twisted things to draw away the disciples after themselves."
You are an eye-witness of that.
The comforting aspect is Jesus said, in our days, He would make sure real Christianity would make a re-appearance.
However, don't look for something spectacular.
Jesus said:
"...broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it; whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it.
Matthew 7:13,14
"...few are the ones finding it."
Real Christianity would be found in a small group, not a major religion.

You are not completely alone. I consider myself a Christian but I do not go to church because I have issues with the "organized religion" part of it and I have found, throughout my life, that I have been repeatedly judged when I entered a church. I believe that what I worship and how I worship is what is right for ME. I don't like feeling judged by other people because I have tattoos or I listen to heavy metal, it doesn't mean I am evil, it means I am open minded. My Faith is a HUGE part of my life but I don't let "normal Christians" decide whether or not I am going to hell. That is up to God and only to God.

(General opinion of Christianity) Look at how many domination's there are under the Christianity umbrella, & each one can be classified as a cult. Think of it as, there can be only one, one true domination for christianity = one true god and heaven, & anyone who doesn't believe in their faith is lost or unsaved and they must try to save them, or target them to be saved. They tell people who don't believe in their faith that they will go to hell, or the way they live their life is a sin & that they must change their way of life so that they can be saved. Christians (in general) who have access through the media radio, video's, cable tv, ect. 700 club, Bill O'reilly, Rush limba;(christian right) used the power of the media and abuse that power by bashing anything and everything that people do normaly are considered unsaved (or weak in their religion) because they don't follow their faith.

I believe:
Christians are a slave to their own beliefs/religion/faith to god & they cannot help themselves, because they are salves.

No offense intended

It is piculiar to me that you don't hesitate to insult a group of people by labeling them 'weak' yet you are the one who is offended. You are laughable when you say you don't mean to cause an offense. You might as well have written "but I'm going to do it anyway." Do you also say "I'm sorry but...."

The reason that you perceive that Christians 'target weak people' is because you believe that you are strong, self sufficient, can rely and trust yourself. It's called pride. You are no different than the Pharasees and Saducees who were confident in their self righteousness. And just like them, it will be your undoing.

Surely you remember Jesus' words the He has come to find that which was lost... He came to heal the wounded, the broken, those who realize that they cannot do it themselves.

And we reflect Paul's words when he writes "But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise. But the natural man cannot receive the things that come from the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him; neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.

So you go on pridefully believing (can you say faith?) in your "pure" atheism, that religion without hope and your confidence in yourself which is a path to destruction. (There is a way that seems right to a man but the ends thereof are the ways of death).

I'll go on realizing that I can't save myself because I am not perfect, sinful and don't have to because Jesus the Christ came to seek me, because I was lost, and He gave, gives to me life, and life abundant that it is full and meaningful with hope.

Even though we obviously disagree on this subject I do have to give you snaps for reading responses to your question. Now, if you would only repent and receive Christ as your Saviour that would be perfect!!!

By the way, I don't remember ever being in London.

I'm noticing that there is a growing group of American Christians who do not with to identify themselves with mainstream Christianity, partly for that reason.
Please don't judge all American Christians by what you see on television, for God's sake! Most American Christians do not live in million dollar mansions, drive around in expensive cars, or devour widow's houses......

that is sadly the way of the American dream. Religious zealots from any religion can cause a lot of damage and ruin it for true believers as well as for those who do not believe.
Fanatical religious zealots are intolerant, moronic, stupid, uneducated, racist, bigoted, unpleasant and pathetic. Because they do not see that their hatred is part of what they preach about and THEY therefore will end up in the HELL that they say everyone else will end up in. Because THEY do not practice in any way shape or form the true meanings behind any religious book, which were only ever meant to be a guideline to living a moral and happy life.
