Oscar Dela Hoya

I have tell you, Santana's answer is the road map to a DeLa Hoya victory, thumbs up, as usual you nailed it. I still think Oscar's legs are a question, he's not as young as he once was, and time slows us all. Floyd has speed to burn, and without Roy Jones Jr. to compare him to, may be the quickest top fighter out there right now.

I can't see how Oscar wins a decision in this one, I think he has to KO Floyd to win it, an he can only do that with early body work to slow Floyd. Without that left hook Santana so wisely pointed out, it wouldn't even be possible. We will know on May 5th, until then, we speculate.

Blogbaba still sees a Mayweather decision victory, so long as he doesn't get careless and walk into something.

Novices, listen. I hope this is the last time I have to make this point. If a young, faster, hungrier De La Hoya couldn't beat Pernell Whitaker, Shane Mosley, Felix Trinidad, Felix Sturm and Bernard Hopkins (all boxers except for Trinidad, a puncher who could box and we all know Oscar didn't "beat" any of them), then what makes you people think that at age 34 he can beat the fastest, most talented fighter in the world who is in his prime? There is no logic here people. De La Hoya struggles with boxers. Floyd is no Mayorga or Vargas. Nor is he some small 122lb guy coming up in weight 30 lbs overnight. Floyd is a great boxer with an impressive amateur background (should also have been a gold medalist but was robbed) and who has won every single fight he has ever fought as a pro and who has come up in weight gradually over the last few years. He makes fast fighters seem slow, good boxers look mediocre, and strong fighters clumsy. When you look at these two face to face there is not much difference and come fight night, they will be about the same weight give or take a few lbs. Floyd should weigh in at about 152 lbs. Their size does not translate into some special skill or power. They are two talented fighters with two different styles. Mayweather will still be faster, quicker, better defense, and who will be more confident. Freddie Roach (who isn't even a top 5 trainer) will not make Oscar any better a fighter. He may be able to help him with strategy to stay in the fight for awhile but I figure that eventually, Floyd will catch up to him and batter him with one too many combinations and watch for Freddie to throw in the towel sometime between the 7th and 10th rounds. One last time: If you want to make some money, make that bet.

Carlos ~

It's hard to write. I've been reading a lot interviews coming from the De La Hoya camp that Oscar has said "People will be surprised at how I will be able to match Mayweathers speed" Mistake, mistake, mistake. If Oscar tries to go in there and match Floyd's speed it will be a easy fight for Floyd. Oscar can not let his ego get in the way of what he has to do in order to beat and possibly knockout Floyd.

Oscar must take a page from Julio Cesar Chavez's book and unload the punch that separates most of Mexico's top fighters from other fighters in the World, the left hook to the body. This weapon is key to beating Floyd's style. Gilberto Reyes the guy who came up with the game plan for Julio's knockout of Floyd's uncle Roger, who had the exact same style as Floyd does but a tad bit slower.

The "Tuck and Roll" style is tailor made for a left hook to body. Floyd tucks his head into his left shoulder and put the majority of his weight on his back foot when a head-shot comes at him he turns to right and rolls with the shot. Jose Luis Castillo unloaded his left hook effectively on Floyd in their first encounter which many boxing writers had Floyd losing that fight by at least 5 points.

Everytime Oscar gets him to the ropes he has to unload the left hook. Everytime Oscar gets Floyd trapped in the corner he has to unload the left hook. Everytime there's an exchange in the center of the ring Oscar must unload the left hook. One of the biggest advantages that Oscar has going for him that every one excluding Floyd's father Floyd sr. is forgetting is that Oscar is a coverted southpaw, meaning he is a lefthanded fighter trained to fight as a righthanded fighter. Joel, Oscar's father switched him around as a small child so Oscar's left hook should be even mopre devestating.

Any boxer can be beaten and any fighter can be stopped. Tyson, Chavez and Tsyzu were all fighters of recent that were not suppose to lose or be knocked out. That's what makes this sport the greatest in the world one on one where anything can happen Carlos.

If Oscar fights the fight that is in bloodline he wins if Oscar fights the fight his ego wants him to fight he losses.

Thanks for the question Carlos.

I'm thinking Dela Hoya he's a Vet but you can't under estimate a young man's hunger besides both guys are good at the sport

The better fighter that day. Mayweather`s speed is an important factor because he is a counter puncher. if De la Hoya can`t adjust to that he will lose. If he can, he has a chance of winning. but it`s going to be tough for De la Hoya .

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will win that fight, because of his speed and determination. Floyd also has beaten better boxers in his career than Oscar. Floyd has the style to give DeLa Hoya headaches the entire fight. Floyd also has the knowledge of what he has to do, he has to fight Oscar the way Shane Mosley did.
Floyd's Notables wins
Castillo (12(2)
Corralles(KO)
Bruscells(KO)
Hernandez(KO)
Baldomir(12)
Gatti(KO)
Manfredy(KO)
Judah(12)
N'dou(KO)
Corely(12)
Mitchell(KO)
Chavez(KO)
Gererna(KO)
Rios(12)
Now I am not fight excellent competition and won, but Mayweather has beaten the better guys. I am picking Mayweather by UD 116-112

Floyd - He is the greatest of all time.

I am hip to the first answer though, I like Freddie Roach a lot. With him as a trainer, I have a shot at beating Floyd....
