At least when I registered, Macy's gave you coupons after the wedding to use on the items on your registry that you didnt get. So register for what you want, then if you have to buy it with the money you received as gifts, at least you'll get it at a discount (the coupons typically worked on sale prices too)
I love to shop online for gifts, then have it shipped, then have one less thing to worry about. Plus its nice to not actually have all those gifts at that wedding for both security and someone having to transport them. Macy's sends free shipping emails all the time too!
Thats great on the buy USA thing too!

Well it is just the bed and bathroom set, right? You did register for a bunch of other things that are found in the store as well?
If all your registry is online, yes a lot of people would probably avoid. Many people don't find out where the couple is registered at all but just go to the top couple choices (Target, BedBath&Beyond, the dept stores at their mall) and if they cant find your registry they assume you don't have one. Very difficult for the couples who register at odd places like REI or online stores, unless they do the wedding website or have a huge shower and include that on everyone's shower invite.
My parents have just gotten a computer and are still trying to figure out how to type in websites. That doesn't even include people in my grandmothers generation. They aren't computer saavy at all and wouldn't begin to know how one orders something online.
But it's my opinion that putting your bed set that is online online isn't a big deal--as long as when people go to Macy's they can also pull up a registry and find something in the store to buy you as well.
People still might not bother buying it though if it is more (since now s&h has to factor into the budget as well) than they were planning on spending. Are you sure you can use gift cards when buying online, cause I could see that being a problem. You just want it to be convenient for all your guests, and internet shopping alone would not be.

In my experience, it's best to have some items that are online and some that are in the stores. Either is fine, but mix it up. There are some folks who only buy registry stuff online (like me) and some who only go to the physical stores (like you).
I couldn't tell from your question, but is this bathroom set the only thing you're registring for at Macy's? If so, it'd be better if you went into the store and also picked other things out that are actually in the store.
Remember that it is unlikely that your entire bathroom set will be purchased. But this would be true regardless of it was in the store or not. I just don't want you to worry that people aren't buying it because it's online.

That's a tough question!
I bought a gift online from a wedding registry once, but only because the bride lives out of town and I wasn't able to attend the shower, so I ordered online and had it shipped to her house. Other than that, I'm like you - I prefer to shop in the store.
Honestly, though, if it's the bedding & bath set you really, really want, I say go ahead and register for it. The worst thing that could happen is you don't get it. I also believe Macy's will send you a coupon after your wedding for 20% off of unpurchased registry items to use after your wedding, so if you have to buy it yourself, then at least you get a discount.
You may also have someone who's not comfortable shopping online get you a gift card to purchase it yourself. That's always a possibility, too.
Best of luck to you!!

I don't find it to be a problem if its only offered online. Sometimes sets or gifts come directly from the manufacturer because there has not been a need to carry them in the stores. I find this way is better coming direct instead of the store being the middle person. You can register at the store and then add things to your registery online -- nothing wrong with that at all. I recently purchased a gift that was available online only and I like it much better as I don't have to deal with the hordes of people at the store :)

Some people restrict their buying to in store only, while some others love the convenience of buying online. I would say if I went to the store to try and find your gift, and I thought about getting you the bedding, but saw it was online, I'd probably just pick something else--only because I'd figure I'm already in the store, so I might as well get this task crossed off my to-do list and move on to something else-and I do shop online quite a bit.

I think as long as you have a mix of goods that are offered in the store and only offered online, then you're fine. Most of the older generation will go to the store to buy a gift and won't want to use the online store, but most of your younger gifts will solely do online purchasing. As long as your registry isn't 100% online goods then you're fine!
And, personally, I ALWAYS shop online for registry gifts. It's convenient, it goes straight to their door, and I can see all the options at one shot. So, I wouldn't worry about it!
Congrats!

Actually I do online shopping alot. Really helps out if you are really busy for a few days. Helps with one less trip. My aunt when she got married about a year and a half ago did an all online gift registry, it was great didn't have to go through lines :)

I wouldnt think it would be a problem! Look at it this way. If someone that lives far away goes online they'll see that as an option and if you get doubles of presents and have to take them back to the store and get a credit YOU can buy them if nobody else did. I registered at a few places (crate & barrel, etc) that I knew a few hip out-of-town people would shop....I got most of my bar stuff that way. Do what you want.

Well I always thought if you are going through, say, Bed Bath And Beyonds website, that guests can also go into the store OR go online and be able to get your registry list.
I've made sure I have my registries available to guests online and in store.
