God told us to be good stewards of everything we have here....

I totally agree. We are different from other animals, but we are a part of nature, not set apart from nature. We depend on the rest of the world for our survival. We can't be healthy unless our world is. We need to act like it.

Another bit of Native American wisdom, from the Cree: "Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money."

As the most advanced species on this planet we should take it upon ourselves to make sure that this place doesn't get destroyed. Those who understand evolution, and those who believe this is a gift from god both know just how unlikely and special this planet is, and as a species capable of comprehending such a thought should rise above our self absorbed idiocies and try to take care of it to see that it lasts at least as long as it would if we weren't here.

That is exactly (almost word for word) what I say. It is people's responsibility to take care of the world in which we live. Our carelessness and destruction of other living things (species, their habitats, etc.) may cause one of those strands to break. It is possible that the destruction of one of those strands may undo the entire web.
