Your pulse is probably racing. When you see your doctor next time, mention it to him - you could have high blood pressure( or until you see him again check your blood pressure in the drug store - most drug stores have cuffs set up for customers to check their own blood pressure). something certainly to look into though. Hope that helps.

This pounding sensation could be attributed to cardiac palpitations.or pts w/ Hyperthyroid ism. It won't hurt to see your Dr. to rule out Atrial flutter or Fibrillation.

Many have experienced a seemingly endless fluttering in the chest, followed by a racing and pounding sensation. Just as you think that you are in the throes of a heart attack, the fluttering and pounding start to ebb. Within a few minutes you feel normal again, except for the lingering anxiety and concern.

Just about everyone has experienced a fluttering or racing heart. For people in generally good health, it probably does not signify a problem, More likely, the out-of-kilter rhythm is a simple palpitation - frightening at times but usually not dangerous. Heart palpitations can produce a number of sensations. Most people describe the episode as a fluttering or racing feeling. Some characterize it as a momentary sensation that the bottom is dropping out of their chest.

In some instances, palpitations produce a pounding sensation. Not uncommonly, racing and pounding occur together. Benign palpitations tend to have a more gradual onset and ending than more serious arrhythmias. They also may be very brief.

Any number of circumstances can lead to a physical or emotional state conducive to heart palpitations. Many people who have palpitations are in situations that make them more aware of their heart and heartbeat. Some people may notice their heart beating more rapidly or forcefully because they are lying on their left side.

Other causes of Palpitations: fear or anxiety, Stress, Alcohol, stress, stimulants such as coffee, Mitral Valve Prolapse;other heart conditions, high intensity exercise, and an overactive tthyroid or Hypertension. I wouldn't worry about it if it was only a one -shot deal.

Sometimes, it's indicative of a premonition of some event to take place. Or it's an aura. Because your B/P is normal and your heartbeat is not fast; it could be some form of stress and anxiety.

I believe you're talking about Tachycardia; the description of your symptoms are not too self explanatory. Nevertheless, read information below and you can decide for yourself is this what you're feeling.

Fast Heartbeat (Tachyarrhythmias)
A healthy heart beats approximately 100,000 times a day and pumps about five quarts of blood each minute, or 75 gallons of blood every hour. Tachyarrhythmias are a fast or irregular heart rhythm, usually more than 100 beats per minute and as many as 400 beats per minute. At this rate the heart is not able to efficiently pump oxygen-rich blood to your body. As a result, you may feel dizzy, weak, lightheaded, experience shortness of breath, or even fainting spells.

Tachyarrhythmias occur in either the upper heart chambers (atrial tachyarrhythmias) or lower heart chambers (ventricular tachyarrhythmias).

I'm not a physician, so please do not take any of this information as medical advise. You should consult with your doctor if any of your symptoms persist. Please take a look at the link below for further details. I hope this helps! ni ni :-)

not sure what it is, but i have had this happen to me occasionally too. I kind of think it feels like a bit of an adrenaline surge to me. Or a bit of a panic attack. Or heart palpitations.
